Warnings and Brownies
| May 28, 2011 | Posted by Sweet Tooth Runner under Uncategorized |
HEY lovelies!! Had a good start to the weekend I hope!
I started my Saturday with an early morning BodyPump class!
If I don’t look like the woman on that BodyPump poster soon, then I’m demanding a refund.
I don’t normally do the Saturday morning class, because I’m usually doing music stuff instead, which is how I pay for all those nut butters!
But there’s nothing like feeling this pain first thing on a Saturday morning:![]()
That was me collapsed in pain after the abs track. I love how that woman behind me (and everyone else) had moved on to stretching, but I was still in a heap on the floor. Er, I put more effort in…? Well, that’s what I’m telling myself anyway!
I also did 30 mins of ellipticalling before whilst imagining myself running. I did warn you I was obsessed.
Before I left, I had a cereal-yoghurt mess:![]()
I couldn’t have my usual things because there was NO FOOD. I have this dilemma every Saturday morning, because Saturday is fooood shopping day!! I LOVE food shopping- it’s very high on my list of hobbies, and I wish I was joking when I say that but its totally true…
I had a recovery smoothie after my workout, same as yesterday’s, but topped with PB&Co Crunch Time instead. It really upset me how all the PB sunk before I could take the picture! I guess that just means I should stop eating it outta the jar and just take the photo next time! ![]()
![]()
And then, it was time for CHARITY STUFF!![]()
Last week was Christian Aid week, but my church are a little behind the times, so we did a fundraiser today instead and raised over £3300!! I then went to help at a ‘soup kitchen’:

I loved every minute. I chatted to some people who had such sad stories, and it really showed me just how easy my life is, and how GRATEFUL I should be for all I’m blessed with!
Because I was doing this, I sadly missed out on meeting up with Gabriela, Freya and Carrie, as Gabriela was in London this week, but while I missed out on meeting these gorgeous gals…
(Photo borrowed from Gabriela’s post)
…I know I’ll meet them all in the future, especially since I’m running a half marathon with Freya and Carrie in October! And talking of the race, guess who got their race outfit today?!![]()
MEEE!! Cos guess what charity I’m running for?!![]()
Christian Aid!! I’m part of their Team Poverty, and we are gonna kick both the race’s AND poverty’s butt! More on that soon! But I did get a little carried away…![]()
Look, I’m RUNNING AGAIN!! I did warn you I had a vivid imagination! ![]()
I also warned you that not running caused a severe case of Crazy Face:![]()
I may have camped out in the running section of a bookstore. And I am SO buying that book. Or at least going back and sitting there for another hour until I finish it! It ROCKS so far, and according to the predicted race times in it, I can TOTALLY get my sub 1.35 goal as long as I heal up right and train well!!![]()
Dinner involved these three things in a couple of wraps:![]()
Refried beans from WF, avocado and spicy Sabra hummus. It was SO good!! And I followed it up with…![]()
No-bake Date and Pecan Brownies with Chocolate PB Fudge (adapted from here)
- 2 cups pecans
- 2 cups of chopped+pitted Medjool dates
- 1/3 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
- 1T agave nectar
- 1/4 t salt
- 1 cup smooth nut butter + 1t coconut oil IF you don’t have ‘drippy’ nut butter (mine was oily enough already)
- 1/2 cup semisweet/dark chocolate chips
- Pulse the pecans and dates together in a food processor until mostly incorporated. Then add the cocoa powder, agave and salt and process until combined.
- Press into a 9×9 square tin (I lined mine with foil) and place in fridge.
- Melt the chocolate chips and nut butter (and oil if using) in the microwave, stopping frequently to stir until melted, then pour over the base.
- Place back into the fridge until set (I left overnight), then cut and ENJOY!!
Pouring that choc PB over the base…and then licking out the bowl after…mmmm….
I have been eating these every day since Sunday, and I will be for days to come…![]()
Plus, since Katie’s doing a ‘Hug a Vegan Dessert’ feature (which she so kindly featured last Sunday’s pancakes on today!) I thought I’d really do it:![]()
I did warn you I was a hugger.
I also should’ve warned you that this is the longest post ever. Sorry guys. Hug and make-up for it?![]()
When is your next big race? Next big one is October, but a few before then to look forward to! ![]()
What are you looking forward to most on the rest of your weekend? Sunday morning. If you’re new to the blog, then you should know that I’m in love with my Sunday morning routine of running (well, cross-training now!), then Pancake Sunday, then church! BEST day ever!!
Random Q: Pancakes or waffles? I’ve actually never had a waffle! So I’m rolling with PANCAKES ![]()
Have an AMAZING rest of the weekend!! Love you friends!! <3
I need rehab.

HELLOOO lovelies!! It is so almost Friday and I get the day off tomorrow so I’m having a little party if you want to join me? It’s gonna involve a TRACK workout, providing my shin feels okay-ish tomorrow morning! We can all run it together and it will be so much FUN!!![]()
Not gonna lie, I’m a bit excited. My nearest (real) track is like a thousand miles away from me, so it’s a big deal, k?
Anyway, back to today! I started the day with a biiiig bowl of peach oatmeal, topped with the last of my almond butter *sob*![]()
I’ve never had peach oatmeal but it was AWESOME! And peaches+almond butter go SO well together! Breakfast heaven ![]()
Lunch was some lentil lovin’!
Lentils in nooch+tomato sauce plus roasted aubergine/eggplant and courgette/zucchini. With PB&J toast on the side of course ![]()
The nut butter feasting didn’t end there. I got this Tweet in the morning:![]()
PB+grapes?! Hmmm…well of course I had to try it! ![]()
Verdict? Amazing. Rebecca you are a GENIUS. Is there ANYTHING peanut butter doesn’t go with?!
There were also many of Katie’s amazing blondies eaten today:![]()
Topped with PB of course!
(FYI that layer of chocolate happens when you put in waaaay more chocolate chips than the recipe calls for, and I highly recommend it!
)
And all day I was looking forward to my BodyPump class! I haven’t done it in a couple of weeks and I was DYING! I got in an elliptical workout beforehand, but something really weird happened…
WHO DOES THAT?! It was the weirdest thing EVER! She was middle aged and looked deadly serious, so I don’t think it was a joke…weeird!! And a couple of weeks ago some old man stroked my leg. Is it me or do I just live in a creepy town?!
LOVED today’s workout though! That+BodyPump= happy Emma! ![]()
![]()
I think I need to go to Nut Butter Rehab though, because later on…
PB&J stuffed Medjool dates. Oh yum.
What made YOU happy today? Food, workout and your comments and love…the usual! ![]()
What’s your fave: nut butter and _____? Jam. Always and forever. Oh, and dates! And bananas! Okay, I’m cheating here!
Random Q: What are you looking forward to tomorrow/the weekend? I’m embarrassed to say it, but shopping becuase I am now out of cashew and almond butter. I know, I really do need Nut Butter Rehab!!
Love you guys, have an amazing day!! ![]()
Living the Crazy Single Life
| February 14, 2011 | Posted by Sweet Tooth Runner under Special Breakfast Mondays |
Kay, so did anyone else other than Freya, Lindsay and myself NOT realise it was Valentine’s Day today until late yesterday night? Oh the crazy single life I lead! ![]()
gtbfa
People living the Crazy Single Life simply have the best breakfasts in my opinion.![]()
We utilise our mostly empty nut butter jars in amazing ways…
The kind of work done there could only be achieved by finger. Again, I blame the Crazy Single Life for that lack of etiquette.
Took my oats, stuffed them in said jar, and topped them with something vaguely reminicent of V-Day…
…and then some granola too. Because life just isn’t complete without it. Crazy Single or otherwise.![]()
Special Monday Breakfast = Success.

Living the Crazy Single Life means that you can hit the gym in the evening on Valentine’s Day, and get all schweaty and attractive on this beast of a machine:
I loved the fact that the gym was practically deserted for once!! I’d never been on that machine before, cos a) it was/is too scary looking and b) there’s only two, and they are always taken. Apparently though they’re always taken by people in relationships! BodyPump was super quiet too! SCORE for the singleton! ![]()
grea
Crazy Single Life means you can not wear make-up and leave your hair in it’s natural state of insanity, even on Valentine’s Day.
No-one will ever see me and judge. Well except anyone who reads this…!
And the best thing about living the Crazy Single Life? No compulsory food sharing.![]()
I made Katie’s hot cocoa fudge babies, but left them slightly chunkier for a bit of crunch. They are total bliss. And trust me when I say that they’re the only babies that are gonna be made tonight as far as I’m concerned! ![]()
gtrs
So tell me, are you living the Crazy Single Life too, or are you celebrating V-Day with someone special? Despite all these cool benefits, maybe someday I’ll find someone I love enough to share these delicious babies with…they’d have to be pretty darn special though!
hts
What is your favourite thing about Valentine’s Day, or do you hate it? I love it, because I get another excuse to eat a ton of chocolate and make yummy things! A V-Day dessert coming at ya belatedly tomorrow by the way, thanks to the whole forgetting thing!!

Thirty Day Thursday and looking on the bright side
| February 3, 2011 | Posted by Sweet Tooth Runner under Thirty Day Thursday |
Hello friends! ![]()
You may have seen this 30 Day Challenge on other blogs (I got the idea from the lovely Averie), and I think it’s a fun thing to do! So basically, every Thursday, I’m going to be posting about one of the Thirty Day Challenge topics! Not in order though, because where would be the fun in that? ![]()

Day 26- What kind of person attracts you
So you may have heard me mention BodyPump boy before. Because clearly I am a little obsessed with him. Well today, straight after class, I ran off outside the hall leaving all my stuff and my set-up to take a call…![]()
…and when I got back, he’d put away all my weights and my bench and was holding the door open for me! Awww!! ![]()
That is probably the thing I find most attractive in people! Manners, generosity and kindness wins over good looks for me any day!
Shmushy time over now! ![]()
***
I have also been a little bit obsessed with the whole PB+J combo this week. Read: oatmeal topping Every Single Day.
Yummy yummy yummy!
I was a bit sad today, because my ankle wasn’t feeling 100% still. I considered going ahead with my planned hill sprint run anyway, but decided in the end it’s better to play it safe. I always like to look on the bright side though!
Bad: Not being able to run today.
Good: This meant I could spend more time in the kitchen cooking up yummy goodies! ![]()
Trial #6 of Emma’s Perfect Vegan Chocolate Chip cookie!![]()
Bad: Not yet perfect still! Tasters say the texture of this batch is perfect, but they preferred the flavour of Trial #6!
Good: All the trials mean I get to eat a lot of cookie dough, and a lot of cookies! ![]()
Bad: Not having enough of these…![]()
…to make Trial #7 today!
Good: This gave me the perfect excuse to make something else- Katie’s delicious Chocolate Pumpkin Protein Bars! Made a few minor adaptations, but they were amazing!!![]()
Seriously, make these now!! They are yum!
Bad: I ate about half the batch! ![]()
Good: They were so darn tasty, I don’t regret it one bit! ![]()
Bad: It finished off my jar of peanut butter!![]()
Good: This means Oats In A Jar tomorrow for brekkie! With jam on top of course! ![]()
Amazing: Going back to the cute health store I found on my run on Tuesday, and having a long chat with the lovely woman who owns it. She is my new best friend. She is 65, and ran a sub 3 hour marathon aged 57, and still runs marathons today!! So she is also my new idol. I wanted to take a picture of her and frame it but I don’t think she’d agree that we’re quite at that stage in our relationship…yet.
Even better: She gave me a half price on everything I bought, just because.
The Best: Lovely Amazing Marathon Woman also threw in a bar of dark choccie with raspberries for FREE for me after I told her how much I loved the last one! She says I need it to fuel my running! She knows me so well already! ![]()
![]()
We chatted for ages, and she gave me tons of advice on my running and speedwork!! I LOVE HER!!
So share with me what kind of person attracts you/what qualities in a person you find most attractive. Like I said, I love courtesy, manners, kindness, and I’ll add a good sense of humour to the list! ![]()
Do you tend to look on the bright side of things? Glass half-full or half-empty? Please tell me about something Bad —-> Good that happened to you today!
P.S. Don’t forget to check out my yoga giveaway! That’s another good thing!! ![]()
Have a great Friday lovelies!
Better late than never
| January 27, 2011 | Posted by Sweet Tooth Runner under Uncategorized |
I actually breathed a sigh of bliss after yesterday’s (failed) challenge whilst eating my granola-topped choco-banana oatmeal this morning. Aaaah…![]()
Seriously, never again. And I think every commenter agreed with me: oats are an essential. Fact of life.
***
Today was a BodyPump day. I knew this. I knew what time my class was. And yet if the class hadn’t been running late anyway, I would have been seriously late.
Because I am a late person. I live by this philosophy:![]()
I leave everything (and I mean everything!) to the last minute. I also procrastinate by:
- Baking, even when I know I don’t have the time to, and then the all-important ‘taste-testing’…
- Watching TV (Criminal Minds and Gilmore Girls=addictive)
- Reading magazines or recipe books
- Blog stalking and Twittering <—–BIGGEST CULPRIT!
And I totally did all these things today before BodyPump.
I baked:
And I blog stalked just about everyone in the world who has a blog.
Then I realised I had left myself 3 minutes to change, pack my bag, and get out of the house…yeah that just didn’t happen! But 15 minutes later and I was out!![]()
I was the creepy girl with the camera who tried to subtlely take a photo of the class without anyone noticing, but got caught.
Note to self: strangers do not appreciate having their photo taken without their permission…
Oh, and these chewy protein granola bars are amazing, if I do say so myself!
Made these ones with canned pumpkin, dates, apricots and sultanas. Holy yum.![]()
I cut them into squares this time, and so far today have eaten six. And I’m proud of it too! ![]()
So are you an always-late person like me, or are you an early bird?
What do you do to procrastinate? Eating is another big procrastination of mine! I love spending time making something in the kitchen, and will usually do this rather than senisbly grabbing a snack bar to-go!
FRIDAY tomorrow! Have a great one friends!!
Exciting, exciting, exciting!
| January 24, 2011 | Posted by Sweet Tooth Runner under Uncategorized |
Hey friends! ![]()
So hyped for the giveaway!! And it was great reading what you guys are all excited about!!
Today and yesterday have been exciting days for me too, for so many reasons!
1. Exciting amounts of chocolate.
Chocolate oatmeal pancakes! Delish, but not quite perfect yet! I’ll keep working on it and post the recipe when I’m done, promise! ![]()
2. Exciting amounts of baking. And more chocolate. Combining the two = excitement overload!![]()
More chocolate vegan cupcakes for one of my BFF’s birthday celebration (Happy Birthday Louise if you’re reading this!!!) which was today! And luckily for me there was a lot of frosting left over at the end of the baking process… ![]()
![]()
I had quite a few of those today…! SO good!! Man I love cupcakes…
3. Exciting workouts!
Yesterday, I decided to head out on a run while my cupcakes were baking! That gave me 15 minutes! It was an awesome short run, average 7.25 min/mile pace! ![]()
I’m tellin’ ya, these bad boys give me wings!![]()
Or it’s just that placebo effect thing…….nah, wings I tell you!!
Today was a 5k speed interval run. 1k @ 13.5/14 kmph —> 0.25k @ 10kmph (cooldown pace) repeated until 5k was done! I then dashed straight off to BodyPump! Love getting ma sweat on! ![]()
![]()
4. Exciting finally working out how to use the treadmill TV! I felt very smart! ![]()
![]()
Those intervals went by so much faster when watching Criminal Minds!
It was a bit of a violent episode though…I may have squealed out loud at a few parts!
5. Exciting not having a squished banana for the first time ever!
Oh this is so geeky+embarrassing…
“What’s that, a plastic banana?” No friends, that is a Banana Guard.![]()
Yes, laugh away, but despite the lameness, I proudly enjoyed my perfectly unbruised banana, thank you very much Bald Man Who Laughed At Me!!
Okay, so make me feel better and a little less like a loser by telling me one embarrassing or lame thing about you, or something embarrassing you’ve done. I should really do a confessions post at some point…but I wouldn’t know where to begin!!
And what’s exciting that happened to you today? I know I kinda asked this yesterday, but I loved reading those so much, so tell me some more exciting things! It’s the little things too! ![]()
Hope you’re having a great start to the week! Love you all! ![]()
P.S. If you haven’t already, and you live in the UK, you can enter my giveaway! You only have until Wednesday, so get moving!!
Fire shoes
| January 17, 2011 | Posted by Sweet Tooth Runner under Uncategorized |
Hey friends! ![]()
I am SO excited! Yesterday night, after reading your opinions on my running shoes (majority orange > green, and I agree!), I decided to go ahead and order the orange. BUT the orange shoes in my size had gone out of stock!
The green wasn’t though…was it a sign? I kept looking though, and found some similar but even better shoes!
Saucony Lady Grid Type A3 racing flats! They’re a better model (lighter etc.) than the other ones, and actually worked out cheaper too on Wiggle, even though they are normally much more expensive! Seeing that there was only one pair left in my size, it was a mad rush to find my credit card and order in time before some other evil person snatched them up, but I got them! And can’t wait till they arrive!!! My feet will look like they’re on fire! ![]()
I had an ‘easy’ run today to stretch out my legs after all the speedwork, and I really loved it! I took a different route spur-of-the-moment, got a little lost when dreaming about the Fire Shoes, but eventually found my way back in the rain!
< 5 miles in 38 mins. I wanted to go further, but had to quickly change and get ready for BodyPump!
Biceps are the hardest. Hands down. Squats are the most fun! ![]()
I found my new favourite pre-workout snack by the way!
It’s called Dippy Banana. Instead of spreading nut butter on your banana, you just go ahead and dip it right in there! Dip, munch, dip, munch. Awesome. You need drippy nut butter (like my almond butter) by the way, and trust me, you’ll never want to go back to the traditional/boring spreading. Double dipping is much more fun! ![]()
![]()
This totally made me dream of banana-nut butter muffins/cookies. I don’t know if they exist, but I must make some! ![]()
Snackage also included baked beans on some delicious toasted pumpkin seed rye bread from The Haul. The pumpkin seeds made this bread- such a great texture and flavour!![]()
‘Baked beans?!’ I hear you scoff. Well, just half a can provides 1/4 of your RDA of protein! So take that baked bean prudes!
I, of course, had the whole can. Never do things by halves.
“Baked beans are good for the heart…” I’ll pretend I’ve forgotten the rest of the words! ![]()
So my Monday was pretty awesome! Made all the more so by seeing Jemma’s amazing Nakd bar giveaway! I recently won her last giveaway, and am still loving the 30 Mule Bars I won as a result! Fingers crossed for a second win! ![]()
So I’m interested to hear what you think about when you’re running/working out. I usually think about things happening in my life (Fire Shoes!), or play imaginary games with myself, like pretend there are dragons chasing me or something. Because in my head I am still an 8 year old. So what do you think about?
Also, what is your favourite pre-workout snack? If it’s a long run, my standard is peanut butter+banana sandwich before, but a normal run is a Dippy Banana now! ![]()
Hope you had a great Monday too! ![]()
P.S. My Tone-Up strength training challenge starts today! Good luck to those who’re joining me with it! I have taken my embarrassing ‘Before’ photo and measurements, so can’t wait for the results!!
Chocolate covered day
| January 10, 2011 | Posted by Sweet Tooth Runner under Uncategorized |
Hello lovelies! ![]()
Thanks you guys for your responses to my Strength Training post Part 2! I love all you friends! ![]()
I had such a chocolate covered day! It started with an epiphany. As you may recall, to the disbelief of many of you, I had NEVER tried oatmeal with PB before, until a few days ago. And then whilst raiding my cupboards this morning for brekkie inspiration, my eyes fell on this beauty:![]()
So Dark Chocolate Dreams was my oatmeal topping. Holy Macaroni was this good.![]()
Stirred in, this bad boy was seriously foodgasmic. And guess what lunch was? A Dark Chocolate Dreams sandwich. Oh yes. Followed up with some…![]()
…dark choccie! One square 85%, one 70%. I think I prefer the 85%, but it’s a hard one! ![]()
And do you know what the most exciting thing (not including my killer BodyPump class!) to happen to me today was?![]()
Package deliveries! Of food!! <—Clearly the best kind!
The amazing folks at Alara and Windmill Organics sent me some of their stuff to try! Aren’t they loverly!
Can’t wait to dig into everything!! And you see the bubble wrapped packages in the box? Weeell…![]()
NUT BUTTERS! I’ve never tried either of these flavours before- so exciting! ![]()
These yummy foods are linked to my upcoming giveaway! Not giving anything away yet, but start getting excited…! ![]()
Tomorrow is going to be such an awesome day! I’m trying out some of this stuff (obvs!), going for a morning run, as well as a spin class, and then it’s baking time! I sadly do have my usual baking dilemma though: so many amazing recipes, so little time! But never fear, it will a) all be shared, and b) probably contain chocolate chips! That’s how I roll! ![]()
So what kinda chocolate is your favourite? I like 75%-85% dark. And please don’t leave a comment saying you don’t like chocolate, because I will cry. And what flavours of nut butter have you tried, and what are your faves? Er…peanut butter, and dark chocolate PB…and that’s it! Fun Fact: Up until I started this blog a few months back, I had never tried PB before! Can you believe it? ![]()
Random picture of the day (Janae-style!)
Now if that cute lil’ face doesn’t brighten your day, then I don’t know what will!
Have a great week friends! ![]()
