Cold Runs and Weekend Photos!

Hey friends!! How is it now only NINE days til Christmas?! I’ve barely started my Christmas shopping! Amazon, I’m heading your way…
Over the last week I have been working my butt off for exams and for essay deadlines, but thank heavens I am now DONE and can relax now! To all of us students who have had a stressful couple of weeks, I salute you!! There have been way too many late nights spent writing essays, fuelled by my beloved bourbon biscuits:
One thing that NEVER fails to get me through stressful times is my running! Winter running is in full flow, and I am LOVING it. It is the beginning of my base training, and I’m building back up from a period of illness, so I’m focusing on easy miles and strength and conditioning work.
This is one of my all-time favourite running quotes, from one of my favourite athletes and it sums up part of the reason why I love running so much:
It has been a cold couple of weeks, and cold running is so much more fun than running in the heat! I tend to run outside in all weathers except when the roads are icy, and then I hit the treadmill. Two years ago I twisted my ankle running on the ice, so since then I am pretty paranoid about it! And call me crazy, but I LOVE running in the snow:)
A few of you asked if I could talk more about my winter running plans/base building and what I do for strength and conditioning, so I’ll be doing a post on that tomorrow

This weekend has been absolutely FAB. In photos:
shopping in Oxford Street and sharing a Christmas meal with the bestie

busking in a shopping centre for five LONG hours, and raising over £1000!
celebrating Wine Friday with Catherine
runs at sunrise:)
What was the highlight of your weekend? I had the most perfect run on Saturday morning watching the sun rise in the woods…it made me so happy!!
What do you prefer, running in the heat or running in the cold? Cold all the way! I remember how hot I got running in Hawaii and in the south of France, and I much prefer running in the cold!
Have you done all your Christmas shopping yet? I’ve got most of my presents for friends, but I haven’t even started on family yet! Every year I leave it last minute and regret it!
Have a great week everyone!! <3

I’m so glad that exams are over now, too…Heck, I’m glad the semester is over! It was a rough one, and I’m looking forward to some serious R&R over the next 3 weeks. Which brings me to the highlight of my weekend: Coming home and getting to see my wonderful fam!
Love the Kara Goucher quote! I used to run in high school (unfortunately I no longer can due to a nagging hip injury) and I definitely remember that feeling. I think it can be extended to other forms of exercise as well!
I’d say I’m about halfway through my Christmas shopping. I try to pick up things here and there throughout the month so that I never have to do a marathon shopping trip–those stress me out too much! Good luck with your shopping.

Agreed!! I think all us students are in dire need of some R&R these holidays!! I’m glad to hear you’re at home with your family now
I wish I was as organised as you! Christmas is scarily close and I have SO much more shopping to do haha!
Happy holidays!! <3
Glad to hear that is done with. It seems like more of a pain than anything. I do not miss school in the slightest. The best part of my weekend was defs bonding with my dad in an 18 mile run!

Woah 18 miles?! You are my hero Hollie!! Someday I’ll run that far…someday…
Happy holidays!! <3
I love that quote- so true too.
I am much faster running in the cold, as the heat just saps my energy, but the frosty ground makes me nervous- I slipped a bit last week but that worried me so I slowed right down.

I am exactly the same!! I run faster when it’s cold, but the icy pavements scare me so much! But we’ve had mostly a warmer winter so far, so fingers crossed that continues!
That quote is one of my favorites too! The highlight of my weekend was studying for 8 hours straight and getting one of my essays done… sad, but true. I only have one more essay left that is due Thursday and then it’s officially Christmas break for me! Woohoo
Also, I can’t wait to read the post on base building and strength training
Wow 8 hours of straight studying is impressive!! Yaaay for getting that essay done, and now you’re on Christmas break!!
Thanks! That post is now up
Have a fab weekend! <3
It’s been so icy here that I haven’t run outside for almost 3 weeks, I’m just too scared to risk it!!I like running in the cold, but not the ice or snow! I’m pretty much all set for xmas now!

Yes, please more info on your winter running and base building plans! Winters here are about 50*F (10*C) but I’m such a wimp actually getting outside! The treadmill has become so monotonous I need to run outdoors more!
I have so much Christmas shopping to do. Oye.

Woop that post is now finally up!
Aaah your winters are practically toasty! That’s a warm winters day here, so I’m jealous!!
Oh jeez I can’t even think about Christmas shopping right now. 3 days to go and I haven’t bought ANY presents for my family yet. HELP!!
I just thought I’d note that I love how your blog has become less food focused. That part is always interesting but, I think it speaks to your recovery that you don’t always feel the need to mention your diet. Just sayin’. I’ve always enjoyed your blog, and I am working on the beginning of recovering from my eating disorder and it’s nice that I don’t have to give up reading your posts. I am trying to cut back on the amount of food focused blogs I read, for the time being anyway. I wish you good health and weather as you work on building your winter base miles. When I am healthy again I will be rejoining the ranks of avid runners, as well.
Run on!And have a blessed Holiday!
Chelsea
Thank you Chelsea!! Yes I realised that too recently, but it’s honestly because food isn’t such a big part of my life any more. Not that I don’t love it, because I do of course(!), but my day no longer revolves around what I eat like it used to.
I hope your recovery is going well, and I wish you all the best with it and that you’re healthy enough to get back to running soon!
Happy holidays!! <3
Your outdoor running sounds fun, but so so SO cold! I can’t imagine running in the snow; I’m a wimp and I do 95% of my running on the treadmill
It’s so great that you raised so much money playing music! You rock!
Highlight of my weekend was shopping with two of my dance friends at Venice Beach/Santa Monica. So much fun!
Haha I actually can’t comprehend how you can prefer treadmill running to outdoors! So crazy, snow running is where it’s at
Thanks! Aaah that sounds like so much fun!! I love reading about all your dance stuff by the way! I really wish I could dance well!
Have a great weekend! <3
That’s a beautiful sunrise you experienced!
Cold weather runs can fun because everything looks calm and beautiful in snow. But I’m a wimp for too cold temperatures …
I nominated you for the Liebster award on my blog – hope you haven’t done it before. You can find the rules and my questions on my blog. Hope you join the fun

Aaah thank you so much for nominating me for the award! I will post my response soon
I tried to comment on your post but WordPress is hating me right now for some reason and I don’t think it showed up? I just need you to know though that I was a MASSIVE Spice Girls fan growing up!
