Puppies and Olympic Excitement!

For those of you who follow  me on Twitter, I apologise for spamming your news feeds with pictures of puppies. But now I am going to put them all over this post.

On Wednesday, I visited my friend and her new puppy! Say hello to Roxie, the West Highland White Terrier puppy!

And then Thursday and Friday I’ve been living at my aunt’s house because she has just gotten a puppy too! But this cutie isn’t just any old puppy…

…this is Questa, and she is going to be a guide dog when she is older! My aunt and uncle are fostering her for a year and training her, and she will hopefully go on to help a blind or partially-sighted person :)

How on earth they are going to be able to give up this little cutie is beyond me. I couldn’t even put her down for a second!

She is SO playful, and I spent a good half hour playing with her on the slide. She is adorable!!

That completely exhausted her, and she had to be carried indoor and then fell asleep on me. This is TRUE LOVE and I am currently formulating a plan to steal her.

Okay, puppy time OVER now, I promise ;)

It has been seriously hot here in London recently, and after a horribly hot run on Thursday…

…I took yesterday’s run to the gym! It’s the new gym that I mentioned before, and this is why it is my new favourite place on Earth:

  1. I was the only one in the gym for almost the whole time! No waiting for machines or equipment = win!
  2. The treadmill HAS IT’S OWN FAN. Best thing ever.
  3. Has a cool “random hill” button on the tread which was fun when I got bored;)
  4. It is a nice 10 minute walk from my house, and has good opening hours so I can get in early morning or late night sessions! Oh, and their showers are actually nice!
  5. Young athlete discount means it is CHEAP:)

Just over 7 miles done!

I refuelled with an ice lolly on my walk home, which I’m sure all the elite athletes do too…

I always read running magazines whilst on the treadmill (being able to read and run is one of my many skills;) and I was SO excited to find Running Times in WHSmiths!! You know your life is thrilling when you get excited over a magazine…! It is my favourite running magazine and I stalk the website on a daily basis, but it was only available in America until now!

In the evening, my whole family (including my aunt and uncle who are over from New York) came together and sat down to watch the Olympic Opening Ceremony. What did you guys think? I thought it was great, and SO British! But my aunt and uncle didn’t understand a lot of the connotations, and parts that left me and my family in fits of laughter just left them confused! But we all loved the James Bond bit:

The whole thing left me feeling very proud to be British! :)

What did you think of the Opening Ceremony? I thought parts of it were great (the young athletes lighting the cauldron, Rowan Atkinson+the LSO, David Beckham and Sir Steve Redgrave, etc.), but was it too domestic, to the extent that parts “baffled foreign viewers”? Certainly did in my uncle Anthony’s case anyway ;)

What Olympic events are you most looking forward to watching? ALL Olympic running events (track and marathon), gymnastics, swimming, rowing, cycling…so pretty much everything! I will be glued to the TV for the next couple of weeks. And next Friday and Sunday I will be seeing the action live! :D

Random: Tell me about what run/workout you are doing today! A 9-miler with my BROTHER (I take full credit for his transformation from a couch potato into a runner;) as soon as I can tear myself away from the Olympic coverage!

Have a great day friends!! <3

  1. Ahhhh so cute. I want that puppy! I’m not even a huge dog person and I’m loving these pictures.

Being British is ok, I guess (*jokes*). So excited that the Olympics are finally here! I’ll be watching all the distance events, naturally, and as much track and field as I can get hold of. At the moment, the Olympics is on the ONLY TV channel I don’t get. Have to fix that asap.

Have you readjusted to being back from France yet?

  2. Oh my goodness, they are the cutest little puppys ever. I absolutely loved the whole opening ceremony, I just thought it was brilliant! I have tickets to the basketball, hockey and beach volleyball next week and will be going to see the womens marathon also which is what I am most looking forward to. I love the swimming, cycling, rowing, tennis and of course the athletics. I did just under 9 miles very early this morning so I could be back to not miss any Olympic coverage, I haven’t moved off the sofa since ha!

  3. You definitely don’t have to apologize for the puppy pics!!! Both are SO cute! And I love reading running/fitness mags while working out as well! They are so motivating!

  4. Please, NEVER apologise for posting puppy pics! I found a puppy book in the charity shop today and stood there reading it going ‘awwwwwww’ at every photo! XXX

  5. Well, the cute factor of this blog just went up a million per cent! I absolutely approve of the continuation of posting as many puppy pics as you wish.

The ceremony was a bit of a mixed bag for me – some set pieces worked better than others, and I think the cultural specifity might have made it a bit confusing for some overseas viewers. I really hated the NHS/children’s literature bit because it seemed contrived and irrelevant, and although the NHS is a good thing it is far from perfect. Plus the huge floating Voldemort just made me laugh so much…in an ‘at’ not ‘with’ kind of way. I did love how the flame came together at the end though – very spectacular indeed.

I’m looking forward to any form of running event, swimming, gymnastics and female weightlifting.

Your brother is a fast learner! He’s worked his way up to 9 miles incredibly quickly: must be his fantastic ‘coach’ ;)

  6. I love those puppies so much it hurts. Some people who used to go to my church before moving raised guide dogs. They always brought the pups to church services, and I always wanted to sit in front of them so I could have a puppy underneath my seat the whole time :)

  7. Those puppies are so cute. I love the Queen’s acting debut too, so funny!

  8. I reckon an ice lolly is the perfect post run treat :)
One of my friends has started caring for a guide dog puppy this week- so cute, but also so hard because of all the rules they have to follow.
I really enjoyed the opening ceremony- I have not watched one before (only seen bits on the news) but I loved it. I don’t think it can be “too British” because it should showcase the host nation. :)

  9. The puppies are sooo adorable! And I am so jealous that you’re in the middle of all the Olympic action! My head would probably explode from excitement if I was in London :)

  11. I do agree that it was a very personal opening ceremony and since I lived in London for so long, I understood but it a lot of people didn’t.

Glad you could get revenge and get those miles in. I wish I didn’t get injured on the treadmill and would love to run more often on it…but I do so stay far away from it. :-)

  12. Those puppies are both adorable! I watched the Opening Ceremonies, and I thought it was a superb production! I love history, and I love British humor. I also loved the Queen’s corgis. =) I’m impressed that you can read on a treadmill–definitely an amazing skill. I can’t run on a treadmill bc my pace changes too often, and I like to space out, so treadmills and me don’t really work…very dangerous. I always look forward to swimming, gymnastics, and all of the track events…I even like to watch the marathon, mainly bc I can relate to what the runners are experiencing. I love it. Today I ran 8 miles in the 92° heat. You and I both must be gluttons for punishment. It was rough, but it felt good. Hope you’re enjoying the Olympics as much as I am!

  13. That’s so great that they’re fostering a guide dog!

  14. Awww!!! Puppies so cute!! :)
I loved the opening ceremonies, too! I definitely had no idea about the “British things” that were in it, though! Haha, wish I did!

  15. Those puppies are way too cute!

I’m obsessed with the olympics but I was working so I missed the opening ceremonies. I heard a lot of mixed reactions. Maybe that’s because I’m from the States though.
