Some really random (mostly running related) thoughts…
| June 25, 2012 | Posted by Sweet Tooth Runner under Uncategorized |
As soon as I walked in from this evening’s session, I passed out on the couch and napped for almost an hour. Then I woke up and read a running magazine…seriously my life is tough
Today’s session was tough. Mostly because of this:
I forgot that doing tough sessions alone is harder! Long track intervals on a muggy evening was difficult, but I managed {relatively} even splits, so I’m happy!
Also, if you suffer from shin/calf problems like I do, shin compression sleeves ROCK. I wear these ones from 2XU all the time, and much as I love compression socks too, these are better in my opinion for when you’re actually running:)
Random question: is it possible to develop a sudden random allergy to pizza? I had this pizza on Saturday night, which I’ve had a pazillion times before, but woke up really sick because of it! I feel betrayed by one of my favourite foods.
I thought it would make great running fuel, but actually it was the opposite haha!
My running club had a fun team-building session on the trails the other day after a track session. It was SO FUN and I only fell on my butt in the mud twice, which is a new PR. Also, this is gross post-run hair at its finest:
Base-building is going well for me so far (*touchwood*!), and I’ll talk more about it soon, but it’s not really so well for my dog…I tried to take Buddy out for a short run and he lasted less than a mile before flopping haha!
Exciting news, a new gym has been built down my road SPECIFICALLY for young athlete development! I quit my previous gym about 6 months ago after they put their prices up again, because that wasn’t conducive to my running-shoe-buying addiction. It’s going to be very cheap for young athletes AND it has awesome brand-new equipment AND there will be special classes for specific strength and conditioning work! How amazing is that?! I looked around today and I will be joining soon!
TREADMILLS THAT DON’T HAVE A TIME LIMIT (my heaven) and the weights area, where I really should go more than once a decade
Sorry for the completely random thoughts post. I won’t even read back over it because I know it makes no sense but in my defence I haven’t had caffeine in almost an entire day so I’m seriously flagging
What is the FIRST thing you do after you finish running/working out? I want to say a shower, but that would be a lie. Usually drink chocolate milk or nap.
Do you love pizza? What is your favourite kind? I always order the vegetable supreme with extra mushrooms and no cheese
Are you a gym member? How cheap/expensive and good/bad is your gym? My old gym was expensive, but did have all the best group exercise classes!
Have an amazing day friends!! <3

When I get in the door I do like 15 minutes of abs and pushup type stuff because I know if I wait until later in the day I won’t want to do it! Track workouts are hard enough with teammates- let alone having to motivate yourself do it alone! Way to go.
Your “gross” post run hair is like my dream hair. No fair
Hmm that’s weird about the pizza, but don’t do anything crazy like giving up on this fine food! Personally I think it’s a lack of cheese issue, but I know that’s not your preference
Sounds like Buddy might be a sprinter/ short distance racing doggy
First thing I do when I finish a workout is drink, eat and lie around in sweaty clothes..or run out the door being late to class. I love BBQ chicken pizza..or domino’s mr. wedge pizza. My gym is amazing lol..lucky I don’t pay for it coz I wouldn’t be able to afford anything else if I did!!
Aww– Buddy flopped in the grass is charming!
Next time I order a pizza for delivery Im def gonna get The Emma..I think your posts about pizza made me realize I could get vegan pizza from anywhere, and your pics always make it look super tasty! Sorry it made you sick! Hopefully not a late in life pizza allergy! You can be allergic to pizza, I know this from a highky credible, totally fictious beloved middle-school read, “Maniac Magee,” in which the title character is afflicted. Maniac a runner, too.
I have a middle of the road gym nextdoor to me that is included with my apartment rent. There are a lot of old timers in there..I would love to be in a young athlete’s gym! Something about working out with older men around is just sorta offputting. I guess an all female gym would be equally exciting to me.
I actually belong to two gyms at the moment. I once belonged to four different ones at the same time, so I guess you could say my gym membership problem = your running shoe problem (but I have that too!). I narrowed it down to two though and I’ll probably drop them both when I leave, but that’s really only one more month of pay (OHMYGOSH SCARY!). It’s so cool that you have that gym opening near you! That’s definitely a great opportunity!

I am normally starving when I get home so I eat. that is too funny. I’ve been having minor shin problems and wearing my calf sleeves religiously!

You are so pretty! love hearing from you. Post run hair looks good to me!
Hugs!
Bummer about your pizza! Maybe something else made you feel icky. The first thing I do after a workout is almost always shower. But on weekends, I usually go to the beach (I’ll sweat more anyway) or go home and work in my yard (where I will also sweat and be miserable). I LOVE cheese-less pizza. We have a great local pizza restaurant that offers vegan pizzas. I always order their “Garden Veggie” pizza, vegan style. It’s a 16″ pizza with homemade tomato sauce, mushrooms, spinach, and tomatoes. It is SO good. I’m a gym member. We have state of the art equipment, TVs on every machine, and the dues are only $55 a month. It’s super clean because it’s a medical university gym. It’s the first gym I’ve ever loved. They also offer a bunch of classes (free with membership), including yoga, spin, and Zumba. Also…Buddy is precious! =)

Treadmills with a time limit really annoy me. I usually just hop on to the next one

Oh, what brand are those compression socks!?!? I have been looking everywhere for them and since I don’t know the actual name of the brand it’s been a bit problematic!
Colour me jealous regarding that gym – it looks so swish and flashy. The membership at mine isn’t bad, considering I think I abuse the privilege of unlimited classes
Obviously the first thing I do after running is eat. Well, first I chug a Powerade Zero because of my wonky electrolytes, and lately I wince about a bit and try to put my hip back in its socket. Then eat

That gym looks so swish
The one I used to belong to had a 15 min time limit for each cardio machine, although some people would hog the treadmills and the staff never told them off.
Shame about the pizza- I am sure it was something else and not that.

I always make a protein shake after working out! I don’t like pizza, but I have been making an imitation socca version latey, which was pretty good. I was paying 42 pounds a month for my last gym membership which was offpeak, but since moving to our new apartment in dublin, we have an awesome onsite gym, which is very handy!

Usually when I’m done with a workout I stretch like I’m a contortionist, haha! Then I chug down a smoothie or some snack and nope! I don’t shower right afterward….:P

Awesome news about the gym!!! I’m actually a member of an athletic club, and it’s got a ton of classes, Crossfit, a pool, hot tub, a track, and a sauna for a really cheap price! The starting fee was only $19 and we pay about $30 a month with a free workout with a trainer each month and access to all the facilities!

I’ve never had a gym membership! I usually lie around a bit after running and then eat or shower. I love love love pizza, especially margerita or just plain cheese. your pizza looks so good though! Also just fyi your hair looked really pretty after running. I’m so jealous cause mine gets all sweaty and limp ugh.

It’s kind of gross but sometimes a post-run shower gets put on hold for a loong time while I eat, stretch, foam roll and do whatever else comes to mind.
That pizza looks delicious!! I haven’t had any since I became a vegan.
Since cross country season ended I opened a gym membership which I pay for myself. It is kind of expensive but I have a job so that helps. My gym offers classes like Zumba, Yoga, Pilates, spinning, etc. I take full advantage of these classes and I try to go to either Zumba or Yoga every day. Sometimes my work schedule gets in the way.
my gym works out to £39.50 a month or if you pay annually its about £32.90 a month. But for that you get access to the gym, pool & all classes. No on or off peak & the class choice is great – 6 Les Mills licenses (pump, step, attack, combat, CX Worx, Balance) plus aqua, x-biking and a few other aerobics mega mix, LBT, pilates & yoga classes. There are mini workshops in the gym upstairs too. A good deal i think
I’m missing terribly & feeling rather unfit after 4 weeks. First class yesterday as have been told i can cycle. X-biking near killed me! i should really go upstairs & do some upper body work but i am so unmotivated on my own
Any tips for motivation when working out on your own?
xx
