I’m Back!!
| June 13, 2012 | Posted by Sweet Tooth Runner under Uncategorized |
Back from my holiday to Crete? Unfortunately not. My passport that I sent off to be renewed didn’t turned up, so I never left.
Sadz. But I am getting a refund/compensation for the whole passport shenanigan, so at least that’s something! PLUS in a month’s time I am off to France for two weeks…Disneyland Paris here I come wahoo!!
Instead, I took a different kind of holiday. A complete break, away from work and the computer, and instead doing things and spending time with people I love…
…like lots of trips to my fave place in Londres (Camden town!) with this BEAUTIFUL girl who has been my bestie since we were five:

See, proof

is it just me, or do I look exactly the same now as I did then?!
Lots of shopping done…and Gabby I know you appreciate it when I take weird photos of us;)

…and regular trips to what in my opinion is the best vegan bakery in London:
Cookies and Scream rocks. Awesome food, great ingredients, lovely people.
Their brownies are out of this world. Gabby (who is as far from vegan as it is possible to be
) totally agreed with me on this one.
I have dreams about this brownie
I also went with some friends last week to see the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee parade. We managed to get a good spot and saw the Queen pretty close up!
Prince William+Kate, and Harry:
I’ve also had the time to join in my family’s monthly Ultimate Killer Scrabble Tournament. You don’t have to tell me, I know we’re really cool. My grandma is super-competitive and hates being beaten, which is hilarious to watch!! I am awesome at this game. I’m also really good at being modest
clearly I was a little bit excited over my win…
Running has also been great!! Lots of trail runs, and beautiful views
my fave riverside trail and view
Happy post-run Emma! This isn’t even Instagrammed, just my weird face and quality photography;)

I am starting 12 weeks of summer base training this week, so I’ll have a few workouts and races where they fit in, but mainly building up easy mileage. I’ll talk more about this next post!
And I updated my running wall! This is just part of it now, and it makes me so happy to look at it and see how far I’ve come since last year, and all the exciting things I have to look forward to!
Oh, and last random thing…I got a much needed haircut!! It’s quite a bit shorter, but I like it!

Got any fun holiday horror stories to share? Not passport related, but on my first music tour, a security guard asked me at the airport whether there was a bomb in my viola case, and, thinking he was joking, I said yes (I was young and naive
). He wasn’t joking, and I was thoroughly searched for a good half an hour. Never again!!
For those of you who live in or have visited London, where is your favourite place in the city? Camden has my heart, but I also love where my aunt lives in Kensington…and Hyde Park is awesome too!
Do you keep your race numbers/medals? If so, what do you do with them? I’ve kept almost all of them and stick them on my wall, but most of my friends don’t bother with anything like that!
I’ve missed you all, and can’t wait to catch up with you guys! Not looking forward to tackling the billions of unread items in my Google Reader though haha! Have a great day! <3

Bummer about your trip.
But it sounds like you made the best out of your vacation!
As for favorite places in London, I only went once… When there (in February!) LOVED running around Hyde Park. Gorgeous scenery and so much history.
PS – Great photos from Jubilee!

aaah Hyde Park is the BEST for running in!! I wish I lived nearer it so I could do it more often!
have an amazing day Beth!! <3
I can’t wait to visit London some day! You make it seem so amazing! Hopefully thats where I’ll be studying abroad in a few years!!!

Aw, that’s a shame that you didn’t get to go to Crete.. but YAY for France! I LOVE Paris disneyland, it’s truly amazing – I went there when I was 15.
So glad to have you back

it’s DEFINITELY an amazing place!! I went to Disneyland Paris when I was about 11, and I think if its possible I am going to love it EVEN MORE now. my love for Disney will never end
have an amazing day Amy!! <3
Yay a new post! (I honestly have been checking your blog like every second day waiting for a new one haha) That definitely sucks about your trip, but it’s good that you got to take a break anyway. Now if only they had a Cookies and Scream in Canada …

awww sorry Amy, I have been through a bad patch of not blogging regularly, but I’ll be more regular now I promise!!
and your Cookies and Scream problem is easily solved…come visit London and we can go together and eat vegan brownies all day long
So sorry about that passport trouble! Such a bummer.

I’m glad you didn’t let it get you down and had a fun time with your friend though! LOndon sure looks awesome,I really need to go there someday.
Aaaand I’m super jealous of you going to Disney Land!!!! That’s been a dream of mine since I was born, but I don’t have moneeeeey…

and someday you WILL go to Disneyland I’m sure, and it will be worth the wait!!
haha thank you Kat, and I hope you’re good!! <3
I’m so sorry about your trip! I’m glad to hear that you made up for it in other ways though.

That’s brutal about your passport! Oh well, at least you’ve got France, though
My favourite place to live in London would have to be either Kensington or Primrose Hill (typical, I know). Hyde Park is where I do a bunch of my longer runs, so it would be nice to be close – although I’m actually not too far away right now.
Kensington and Primrose Hill are two of my faves too! aaah I wish I lived close to Hyde Park too…unfortunately I live too far away even for my longest runs!
have a great day Diana!! <3
That is a shame about your holiday- we have had our fair share of mis-haps: got on the plane and then cancelled due to snow, all flights home cancelled due to the shoe bomber, Andy was sick and could not travel so we got stuck away a few more days, flight delayed so much that we missed our connecting flights and had a hard time getting booked onto later flights- even last month coming back from Disney the trains were delayed, so we missed our flight and had to book on to a later flight- our insurance company must hate us because we have claimed so many times!
Maria @ runningcupcake recently posted..Very very Nice
oh wow, you really have had more than your fair share of bad travel experiences!! and you were affected by the shoe bomber?! crazy!! haha I think my insurance company hates me too right now
I hope you’re well Maria! <3
i always end up in covent garden or soho around london, mainly because they are near the west end & we generally go in for the theatre. i discovered Tibits just off regent street last year – if you haven’t been there you should go!
Jennyb recently posted..Prize Draw – the Results
aaah those are the best parts of London! and yes I went to Tibits last year and LOVED it! definitely one of my favourite eating places in the city!
i hope your running is going well Jenny! <3
running is over now unless i decide to do another fundraising marathon, but all exercise is suspended right now as i managed to do a serious pull and possible tear of my right adductor. that was 2 weeks ago and although it is fading the bruise is still the size of the palm of my hand.
new physio today who has been recommended so we’ll see how that goes.
xx
Rubbish about your passport, but it looks like you made the most of it – so good to have some time not wired-in to everything. My favourite place in London…that’s a tough one! I love Telegraph Hill park, not far from my house – it’s a tiny little park with amazing views over the city, always full of people chilling out when the sun shines! But my absolute favourite might have to be Portobello Market. LOVE it.
Lisbel recently posted..Rain! And the written word.
how could I have forgotton about Portobello Market?! I LOVE that place!! my friend and I used to go all the time when we were younger!! and I’ve never heard of Telegraph Hill park, but it sounds perfect!
That’s rubbish about your passport, how annoying! I love London, I like Camden, Soho and Shoreditch.

Aw man! Thats so disappointing that you didnt get to go away! At least youll still get to go to Disneyland Paris!
..i like covent garden, and kensingtonthough..ive never been to camden!
I dont really know that many areas in London, ive only beenonce or twice
Lot-O-Choc recently posted..Chuao Chocolatier CoCo Bar
aaah well next time you come to London, definitely visit Camden, if only just for the amazing brownies
but I’m glad you’ve been to Covent Garden and Kensington…I love those places!!
Ugh, passports are such a pain. I still don’t have one, which is a bummer if I ever wanted to run the Paris or Amsterdam marathons. Just not on the cards for quite some time.
I can’t believe how little you’ve changed since you were five! Lucky for you, you’re extremely pretty anyway so there was no need for any change in the first place. But you do look very mature for five – none of that horrible baby-faced chubby-cheekedness that I had (um, still have). I think I’ve managed to successfully destroy all of my childhood pics because I hated them so much!
I loved Kensington when I visited London, but it was so rushed that I didn’t get the chance to really explore Camden
I have a board each for numbers and medals
I think it all depends on how big a part of your life running is in terms of measuring achievement? In any case, my only positive memories come from running so I’d hate to shut away or lose the reminders of various races I’ve done (except the bad ones haha)
xxx

Jess, I don’t think I’ve congratulated you yet on your latest marathons! How you managed to run such a speedy time in your last one in that heat is beyond me! I’d probably have passed out in mile 1
Haha yes I look EXACTLY the same don’t I?! You destroyed all your childhood photos? I hope that some still exist, because I’d love to see Jess as a kid! I bet you looked beautiful
Next time you’re in London (LM 2013?), you definitely have to visit Camden…such a vegan-friendly and GF-friendly place!
I think you’re right about the medal thing! It’s definitely a big part of how I measure achievement in my life too…so many great memories as well!
I hope you’re having a great day Jess!!
<3
My cousin loves Camden, but I actually don’t. I like the general downtown area.
Have fun in France! France is so on my to-do list!
Aaaand that brownie looks delicious. And you’re gorgeous, love the haircut!

That stinks about your passport! Well at least you got to see the royal family up close.
Have fun in France! I’m very jealous, I’ve always wanted to visit Paris. I definitely keep all my medals, but I throw out the race numbers.

awww bummer about Crete…but it looks like you had a wonderful vacation no matter where you were!
I just found a fabulous vegan bakery…in LOVE!
I hang my race medals and either throw away the bibs or put them in a box (if I remember to keep them post-race!)
are you racing a lot this summer?
I hope your week is off to a great start!
xoxo!

Aww too bad you couldn’t go to Crete, but way to look at the bright side and have an awesome time anyway!
Also, your new hair looks fantastic!
As for horror stories, my family and I got stuck in Toronto on a layover for three days! We were on our way home from visiting family in Munich, and apparently the weather at Newark was so bad, that they wouldn’t let our plane leave. Only, they kept rescheduling the flight, so we literally spent two whole days checking in our luggage, waiting for the flight, and then picking up our luggage again after the flight was rescheduled. Haha, in hindsight it’s a pretty good story I think.
And I’ve never been to London unfortunately, but I really want to ASAP! I hear it’s beautiful and has amazing energy!
This is a bit sad, but I’ll be dorky and admit that I have really missed your posts over the past week or so! It sounds like you had a great holiday at home.
I meant to keep my race numbers and medals, but when we moved house last year, it went missing. I think my helpful moving buddies chucked it. Damn them for not attaching the sentimental value to it race numbers that I do!
Ahh how cool that you got to see the Queen! And sorry to hear about your trip
at least there’s always France right?
Oh. My. God.
I went to Cookies and Scream on your recommendation (got the Chewie Wookee bar) and almost died of happiness. Thanks for the tip off!
Bummer about the passport, but OMG! You saw the Queen! That trumps anything. Very cool!

I keep my race numbers and awards. I didn’t keep any of my highschool cross country numbers, but I’d clip and save my results that were posted in the newspaper. I’ve still got my medal from my first 5K when I won my age group. I was 10 years old and won the 14 and under group. I still compete in local races, 5ks and half marathons mostly. I save my numbers and all my awards. I don’t know what to do with them though…I’ve got some numbers and medals on my bulletin board in my office at work. But the old stuff is in a few shoe boxes (Asics shoeboxes…) in my closet.
Hey sweet tooth! It is soo great to check out one’s own city, have a staycation, esp. with your bff! My fav place in London, if I had ever been there, would be cookies & scream and ms. cupcake cos of your rave reviews!
I just made your killa Raw brownie pie this a.m., followed your recipe to a tee, including the Al foil lined tin, know that’ll be brilliant. Its setting in the fridge now, lookin like a star, can’t wait to cut a slice 2nite. I called my dad (its fathers day afterall) and he is super jeal cos he loves pecans and medjools like a fool. Many thanks!
Wow, what a bummer about your vacation!
But sounds like you made best of it – Camden town is so cool, i really need to get back to london sometime soon!
Trailrunning is the best isn’t it
