A New Best Friend

 

Wow what a weekend this has been! Things have been so crazy lately that I’ve been slightly AWOL on the posting front! I was supposed to be joining my team to race at the South of England Championships this weekend, but sadly ended up not being able to go at the last minute. I was frustrated at first, and sad to let down my teammates, but next week’s race is more important, so I’m excited for that!!

 

Friday’s are my busiest days. I’m typically out of the house from 8am-10.30pm. I basically subsist on a TON of packed food, and this is where my bar addiction comes in!

I ordered more Luna bars a few days ago…soooo good!

 

I also took Oats in a Jar with me. Best portable meal ever!! P.S. I know the below photo just looks like a full jar of PB, but I promise you that there are some oats in it. I just like the ratio 1:10 of oats to nut butter.

I so almost forgot to take the lid…that would have been messy!

 

Friday evenings are made up of music rehearsals, and then I help at my church’s outreach youth group. I love the kids! One of them bought me a candy bracelet! She clearly knows that sugar is the way to my heart Winking smile

I needed that after a long day! Dealing with 100+ hyperactive kids is seriously crazy!

 

I got a blissful 8 hours of sleep (and 9 hours last night…who am I?!) and started my Saturday with toasted cinnamon raisin bread, Justin’s Maple Almond Butter, and a Pink Lady apple:

I spent the rest of the day camped out in the library for a marathon study session. Which obviously, was fuelled with the good stuff…

These sweets are my favourite! Definitely a study necessity.

 

I may have spent a little too much time not actually studying, but eating sweets and making signs to cheer on some of my friends who were competing in a music competition in the evening. She liked this one the best:

It was so great to be watching instead of performing for once! My friends were absolutely amazing, and one of them WON despite the crazily high standard of competition! Doesn’t she look beautiful too?!

I think my heart stopped when they read the results! I think it’s just as nerve-wracking watching as it is performing!

 

I was sitting next to a blind man, and his guide dog is my new best friend. Meet John:

I had a nice chat with the man during the interval, and apparently John is named after John Cleese, because he is a huge Fawlty Towers fan haha!

 

I woke up this morning CRAVING pancakes. Gotta love Pancake Sundays! Open-mouthed smile I had my current favourite: gingerbread pancakes!

I taped the UK Indoor Championships which were shown live on Saturday, and watched it today! AAAH Mo Farah’s race was so exciting, and he’s just plain unbelievable! I can’t wait to see what he can do at the Olympics!

 

My long run today was so awesome. I think I was spurred on after watching my inspirations kill it on the track, and I was feeling great after getting so much more sleep recently! Sundays are my favourite day because you really can’t beat the combo of pancakes, church, and long runs.

Definitely one of my favourite long runs ever! I LOVED it! It was so cold though; the wind chill was the worst!

As soon as I walked through the door, I threw on a few more layers and took Buddy out to join me on my cool-down walk.

I am really looking forward to this week of running, because I have an important race on Saturday where I’m representing my county (note county, which is like a state, not country haha!) for the first time, and also because it will be the first week in my injury comeback where I’ll be running 6 days a week again! Obviously that depends on how I’m feeling, but fingers crossed! Everything’s feeling great right now, so I’m positive  that this will be a great running week!

 

What was the best part of your weekend?

 

What is your favourite snack or meal to take on the go? Energy bars  my go-to option!

 

Runners: How many days a week do you run normally? Six now. Weird to think that this time last year I was only running two or three days a week, and had never usually ran more than 5 miles!

  1. Sounds like you have been crazy busy! When I used to have a schedule where I was out of the house all day I subsisted on bars too. It kind of makes the day exciting even though you’d rather be home :) The cold must have pushed you through that run, my goodness! Thanks for reminding me about gingerbread because I have some molasses I need to use before it gets old!

  3. Long run sunday=the best. Seriously one of my favorite things about the weekend. Good for you for going in 3 degree weather..the coldest I’ve had to do is around 14! Kudos to you! My favorite snack on the go is definitely either an odwalla super protein bar or some sort of nut/trail mix. Easy and convenient! I usually run at least 6 days a week. I take a day off whenever I’m feeling run down or exhausted-I just try to listen to my body. Have a great week!

  5. Sorry you couldn’t make your race. That stinks. But congrats to your musical champion friend! :) Sounds like a really fun day. 3 degrees is really cold! Unless it’s celcius. But that’s actually still pretty darn cold. I love love love doing long runs in the cold. It’s so still and I feel like I’m the only person on Earth! Crazy. I run 5 times per week, and on the go I eat Lara bars, clif bars, and luna bars.

  6. whew what a crazy epic weekend!! you pretty much did everything there is to do haha. I help out with the youth group at my church too, its SO FUN!! but definitely exhausting after awhile. and CONGRATS on getting to add a day to the running!!!! I generally run 6 days a week (when not injured of course haha), but I’l sub cross-training in (making it 5 days) if I’ve got a nagging ache or if I’m feeling like I might be crossing the overtraining line. I can’t wait to hear how the training week goes and the race this coming weekend! :-D

  7. Wow! You had quite the weekend!
    It looks like you had so much fun though, which is all that matters!
    I used to run 3-5 days a week, depending on my schedule. But, unfortunately I’ve had to cut back to only running 2-3 days. (Injuries are no fun! And my body honestly does better when I’m not running as much.) It’s forced me to focus on strength training a lot more though- and incorporating more variety into my workouts. I’ve really enjoyed it, actually!

    And cinnamon-raisin toast sounds so amazing right now. I need to get some. (:

  9. Smoothies with Sunwarrior are my current favorite meal-on-the-go! This weekend had so many highlights including lunch on the beach, partying with friends on Saturday night and all-you-can brunch on Sunday followed by a foot massage! And to top it off, I FINALLY had a pain-free run this morning…6 weeks later and a speed which used to be a breeze for me almost killed me BUT nonetheless, any running > no running!

  11. I generally run 6 days a week as am training for a half marathon, but after that will be cutting down a bit as have a 60 mile bike ride to train for. I can’t decide whether I prefer running or cycling love them both!! Also going to do a duathlon.
    Fab time on your 10 miles, good luck for your race I know you will do well though.

  12. Sounds like you had a lovely weekend, John the dog looks so cute! I never normally eat on the go..its bad I know..ill normally just go hungry until I get in, if I was going to take something though Id probs take an apple or something like that.
    I used to run about 5 times a week but havent been going as recently as ive just felt really tired and achy :(

  13. You are doing so well with your running :)
    I think bars are the best go to option too (clif, luna and nakd bars for me)- perfect because unlike bananas they are still edible after being at the bottom of my bag for days on end.
    I usually ran 3 days per week, but sometimes 4 days per week.

  14. Aw I’m sorry you missed out on the race. Just think of it as saving up the energy for your race this weekend!! I’m a big fan of luna bars, but since I’m “cleaning out the pantry” I had lots of larabars to take with me on vacay. I’m starting to like them a lot more than I used to! I also love cereal as a snack. I actually went to the whole foods here yesterday and just bought a handful of cereal from the bulk bin as a snack. I love it!

    I run 5 days a week… last week I ran 6 but I am always really nervous about getting injured, so I think I am going to drop it back.

    I am excited for you this week..it’s going to be a good one for you!
    My on the goes: yogurt, nuts, bars, fruit..
    My highlight of the weekend was a fun night out for my friend’s bachelorette party, and then a great long run on tired legs :)
    I run 5-6 days/week depending on whether it’s a build or recover week. This week it’s 5!

  19. There have been so many pancakes in the blogworld recently! I need to have some apparently! I usually only run 3 days a week, well thats a good week. Running consecutive days tires my legs out so much!

  21. Wow, what a run! Great job! I usually run 1 day per week, but since I’ve been training lately, I bumped it up to 3.

  22. Woahhh 6 days a week? That’s crazyyy!
    When I’m not training for a race then I usually run 3 times a week and when I’m in training it’s 4-5 times.
    I am SOOOO jealous of your 6-day training weeks! Right now I’m injured so I’m running zero days a week and it’s so depressing!
