Thursday Thoughts

Thanks so much friends for all the comments on my exciting news! And sorry about the lack of a post yesterday! I typed up my next Journey to Health post on binge eating…but I wasn’t quite happy with it. It’s a tough topic, and I want to do it justice! So it’ll be up next Wednesday!

Anyway, a quick post in the meantime! I’m trying to get an earlier night…which I can tell is going to fail already haha! So some random Thursday Thoughts for you!

1. I got a package today! The biggest parcel ever.

It was my aqua jogging belt! Because I still can’t run at full volume yet, I will be supplementing my running with pool running:

Water-Running

I can’t wait to get moving! I haven’t been near a pool really since I was a kid!

DSCF2221

Strange that I was quite the water baby then, but I can’t actually swim!

2. Peanut butter makes you run faster. This is a new scientific fact, based on the rock solid evidence that I had a breakfast that was 90% PB, and had made a new 200m PR in my training! Can’t fault that logic Winking smile

OIAJ

OIAJ! It just looks like a jar of PB I know, but there is oatmeal in there too! Smile with tongue out

And I am still obsessed with yesterday’s chocolate-pretzel-PB oatmeal. It is seriously the best combo ever and will BLOW YOUR MIND!

3. Today I had  a major sugar overload. A Tweet from earlier:

One of the girls brought a vegan-friendly cake she made, and we all had SO MUCH cake! Sugar goes straight to my head, as shown by this photo my friend took on her iPhone…

4. Today’s workout was so DRAMATIC! It was 8x200m, done relay style with 1 mile warm-up and cooldown. Split into two sets, with rest inbetween.

The drama? Well there’s this girl on my team who is AMAZING at sprinting and is seriously fast, but she can’t pace herself at all (even worse than me haha!) and ends up burning out. She gives EVERYTHING 110%, and usually by halfway through the workout, her performance really drops because of that. At the end of the first set, we were both on the last leg, and I was ahead of her, but I could feel her gaining. She was catching up with me by the second, and we were both all-out sprinting for the line (my competitiveness gets the better of me sometimes!). I have seriously never run so fast in my life. I beat her by a millisecond (although had it been another 5 meters to go, the story would’ve been different!) and she promptly burst into tears! On the next set, she collapsed on the track (I could hear her behind me and her breathing was sounding really bad) whilst running and just lay there sobbing and gasping for air! She was taken away, and I hope she’s ok!

4. I had some more exciting news to add to my last post, but I couldn’t contain it so I kinda leaked it on Facebook

I am trying not to get my hopes up in case I don’t get it, but I still can’t stop thinking about it!

This lady in the red will be ME! Only hopefully I won’t age that much in the next 9 months…! Smile with tongue out

2011 World Cross Country Championships

So quick late night snack now, and then off to bed!

DSCF2339

You know, because peanut butter makes you run faster Winking smile

Have you ever tried pool running? Or do you swim? I wish I could swim! I’ve actually nearly drowned once because of my inability to swim and tread water, so I need to learn!

Have you got any exciting news to share with me? Or just anything you are excited about generally? I’m excited about…aaah everything! I blame the sugar overdose! Smile with tongue out

If you could hang around with any athlete or other person for a day, who would it be? Any of the athletes I listed above, plus a thousand more, like Mo Farah!

Have a great day friends! <3

  1. Um I would be super jealous. Let me come to London with you girl. Actually-since I’ve added peanut butter back into my diet my running has improved. :)

  2. Hey!

I wanted to congratulate you on your “big news-” how cool. I can’t believe how quickly you’ve progressed (not that I’ve been following your blog forever, but I noticed that you only began running within the last year or so).

I was a swimmer for years- 6 of ‘em- and it’s a great skill to have. When all else fails, it’s a wonderful workout, and it’s a total body exercise. I’ve never tried pool running, though. Maybe I ought? My ankles and knees have been bothering me a lot lately.

  3. Peanut butter definitely makes you run faster. :) Congrats on your exciting news!! You’re so lucky.

  4. Congrats on the nomination and the PR!!! That drama is a little crazy.. I’ve never had something like that happen to me! Though I did cry the first time I was beaten in a race by one of my teammates. Then I switched to a longer distance race where I did much better :)
Peanut Butter is absolutely the fuel of champions. I support that statement wholeheartedly!

  5. WOAH sounds like someone couldn’t take the heat! I hate when people go overboard like that! Maybe she was crying because she was so awed by your amazingness LOL!!

  8. I’ve never heard of pool running, or seen a belt like that. It sounds awesome! Keep us updated on how it’s going.
And I couldn’t agree more- I’m convinced that my workouts are 10X better on days when I consume peanut-butter. So, there must be scientific truth to your statement!

  10. Wow that is amazing. Congratulations. I really hope you get it!! I am sending positive thoughts. When do you find out?

I would spend time with Kara Goucher. She is seriously fast and seems so nice.

I have done pool running and it can be a tough workout. To get a good result, you have to move fast enough to get your heart rate up. I would recommend a warm up, then doing intervals. :)

  11. I did not think you could do pool running in a normal swimming pool- I always thought they did them in special little pools. So exciting about being the athletes helper too- I get too star struck to choose someone!

  12. Congratulations on the nomination!
It’s quite a coincidence that your next health post is going to be about binge eating..Yesterday, I started typing you an e-mail about binge eating whilst recovering, since I’m struggeling with that now..But in the end, I felt like such a whine-o, and cancelled the e-mail :$..But now I can’t wait to read your next health post (al all the posts in between of course, I LOVE your blog!)

  13. That would be so amazing if you got to do that at the Olympics! I’ll keep my fingers crossed for you :-)Haha, you don’t need to tell me about sugar highs, last weekend I ate so many sweeties I was high as a kite! But I enjoyed them all lots, oh and PB is so a great running fuel!

  14. Whoa that IS quite a dramatic workout! was she crying because you beat her? :-P and OMG that would be SO EPIC if you got to be an attendant for Kara or Shalane or Paula or someone!!! wow wow wow!! When do you find out?? I seriously can’t imagine anyone who’d be more excited about that or better at it!! :) I’d give a right arm to hang out with any of them too, especially Kara! or Lauren Fleshman, she’s super funny. and Yay for pool running! I’ll be doing a bit of that too, so hooray for a “workout buddy”! :-D

  15. Aw,it would be amazing if you could be an athlete’s kit! I so much wish your dream to come true because you deserve it so,so much,Emma! :)

I can swim, but I rarely do it because as soon as there gets any water into my ear,I get an inflammation of the middle ear – not so funny. :(

  17. I hope you get to be an athletes kit carrier! This will be an amazing experience. Swimming has been part of my workouts since I’ve been injured. Water running is fun, I also do laps and kick boarding!

Great job on the sprint workouts!!
