A Dancing Monkey

So a lil’ weekend recap for you!

Friday night was party time. And I party hard…

Yup, monkeys like to shake their butts on the dance floor just as much as anyone. Although they do get tired and end up crashing on the couch in the early hours of the morning.311351_10150356942908705_763123704_8191065_917675244_n

And then I had to get up at 7am for rehearsals, after four hours sleep. I wasn’t a pretty sight, I can tell you that! Smile with tongue out

Saturday was spent lying on the sofa watching Gilmore Girls (non-active recovery) and shopping (active recovery). You know you’re a runner when you get excited over buying (cool compression) socks.25107037_main_m

Ok, so I mainly bought them for warmth rather than compression purposes, but has anyone used compression stuff before? Thoughts?

There was also recovery in muffin-pudding form:DSCF1989

Crumbled muffin in caramel pudding warmed up is sooo good!

On Sunday we had a big family get-together, and I was in charge of dessert, so I made Oh She Glows’ Chilled Chocolate Torte. It was amazing!!

Sometimes self-control is just overrated. This was one of those times.DSCF2020

The meal itself was delicious too:

Nut roast, roast potatoes, carrots and green beans all swimming in (vegan) gravy. I went back for seconds of everything. And thirds of the roasties Winking smile

This coming week I am really excited about, because I am working in a hospital, shadowing doctors. And at the beginning of next year, I’ve got a placement in the biggest sports medicine clinic in the UK, and I can’t wait for that too!! So I’d better get to bed, because if I have another night like Friday I think my appearance will scare all the patients! Smile with tongue out

What was the best bit of your weekend? Monkey dancing.

Runners, have you tried compression gear? Thoughts?

What are you excited for this week? Working in the hopsital, and then I’ve got the world’s hilliest race on Saturday!!

Have a GREAT week friends! <3

  1. WOW, that cake looks phenomenal as does the roast- wish the weather here was cold enough to be able to eat roast dinners without working up a sweat! Congrats on both placements- sounds like fab opportunities! My weekend was spent in a resort in Goa with 9 of my girlfriends which was so fun- a lot of pool time, eating, drinking, dancing. I had the time of my life :) ! I’m looking forward to the Indian holiday Diwali which is on Wednesday :) !

  2. Glad you such a fun weekend!
I haven’t tried compression socks but a girl from my running club recently wore them for a marathon and she now swears by them! She wears them for every single run- not just long distance!

  3. Yum that all looks amazing ! :D what vegan gravy did you use ? :)

  4. I have some compression socks- I wore them after my long runs and they really really helped. I took them with me to stockholm and that night was finding it hard to sleep as my legs ached so much- then I remembered the socks, put them on and my calves felt instantly better. It is like a gentle constant massage/ pressure. I wish they did them for thighs too! :)

    • Thanks for sharing! I will definitely be using them for recovery then :) And you can get compression shorts for your thighs to recover! I saw them but they were much more expensive than the socks, so I passed! :P

  5. PS I never wear them while running, I use them for recovery! I am sure I read an article and they said there was little evidence to support wearing them while running, and a bit more for helping with recovery.

  7. Yum, the eats at your family gathering look amazing! Did you make the nut roast yourself or was it shop-bought? I’m always up for a tasty Sunday roast replacement and that looks delish. Also, hellloooo chocolate torte.. it looks too good to be true!

  8. Gilmore girls is definitely the best way to recover. I still maintain that it’s one of the best shows on television. Your chocolate torte and sunday dinner look lovely!

I had a pretty uneventful weekend but this week I’m excited to see my mom who’s visiting :)

  10. Congrats about the hospital. That is awesome!!! Yummmy cake :D Glad you had a fun weekend!!

  11. Love the monkey onesie and the dessert! My rugby team would be SO jealous of the onesie.. We’re kinda obsessed with wearing onesies to other team’s games. I really want to try real compression socks! I have some soccer ones that do the same thing to a lesser degree, but I always feel so good in them.

  13. Never tried compression gear. In fact, I don’t really know the point of it?

Love Gilmore Girls. I had a blast watching Criminal Minds re-runs last night, haha :)

Best bit of my weekend? Running 5 miles for the first time since getting injured, fro yo for dinner and having a girl’s night with Bridesmaids and popcorn.

    • Compression gear apparently helps your muscles recover faster, amongst other benfits, but I’ll have to see if it lives up to the hype! :P

Aaah you have SUCH good taste in TV! Criminal Minds and GG?! YES! :D

And I’m so happy you got to run again!! YAAAY!! What an awesome weekend for you!!

  14. Nut roast!?!? That sounds interesting!!! Looks pretty yummy too!!

  15. That Torte looks amazing! I’ve never tried compression gear, but I’ve looked into it. I wouldn’t need them for the warmth, though; it’s still up to 90 F some afternoons here! I love the monkey suit! Where did you get it?

  16. I do indeed have a pretty sweet pair of (hot pink, no less) compression socks!! they definitely keep you warm, AND the compression thing actually works. last winter I was able to do pretty high mileage on mostly pavement and my shins didn’t give me any crap! I’m not sure of the science behind it, but…there you go. Only thing about them is I thought they were a bit thinner than normal socks, so even though they keep you warm you’re gonna have to re-lace your shoes. Worth it though! Speaking of things that stave off injury, how’s your injury doing?

THAT’S SO AWESOME you get to shadow doctors too!!!! I didn’t know you wanted to be a sports-medicine doctor, that’s epic – and totally perfect for you too!
Kate @ Chasing It recently posted..tis STILL the season!

    • My injury is slowly healing thanks!! It’s frustrating to only be able to run a couple of times a week on grass, but it’s better than nothing! :D And hopefully I’ll be able to train properly again in a months time :) How is your ankle doing?!

I want your pink socks. Waaay cooler than my black ones! And thanks Kate!! <3

  17. mmmmm! yummy looking dinner and gorgeous dessert!
