You will if you believe.

HELLOOO lovelies!! Had a good weekend I hope! Loved reading your comments on yesterday’s post! I loved how shocked most of you were that I’d never tried nut butter pre-blogging haha!

I started my Sunday with a small dilemma. Today’s church service was an earlier one (at 9.30am instead of 11.30am) which means I couldn’t get my run in before as I usually do, so I’d just have to have it afterwards. Enter: the fuelling problem. I have NEVER had a morning run on anything other than a PB+banana sandwich. That’s my thing. But today was Pancake Sunday…do I risk it for pancakes? Of course!DSC09889

Katie’s cookie dough pancakes. I added PB, made them super-thick and drizzled them with maple syrup, and I was in HEAVEN!! LOVE Pancake Sundays! Open-mouthed smile

I also channelled my inner Katie by making her blondies…but a PB+J version! I made it the way she suggested it, but with a few tweaks:DSC09914

The recipe is here (I won’t repost cos it’s not mine) but I used 1/4 cup agave instead of brown sugar, 1/4 cup spelt flour instead of flaxseed, and about 2.5 tbsp jam instead of applesauce. They were slightly more gooey and brownie-like, but I LOVED them this way!! Katie you are a GENIUS, and I know I say that every time, but it is true!! Course, I had them topped with more PB and jam…DSC09928

Bliss Smile

After church (which was the best service EVER! Loved today’s message: “everything you do, do it for Him”), I headed to the track! Open-mouthed smileDSC09896

LOVE the track, but WHY is it so far from where I live, and WHY do they have craaazy opening hours?! Still I love it so much! My doctor has banned me from running on roads because of the shin splints (which I am seeing a physio about tomorrow or Tuesday btw!) so I’ve been using the treadmill recently and missing the fresh air! I feel so much FASTER when I’m outside too! Except when there’s crazy wind like there was today! Smile with tongue out

Possibly the only time you will ever see me looking serious is when I am running.DSC09898

Well, unless I know someone is pointing a camera at me in which case not so much…emma running 2

But that photo was from a month ago, so maybe I’ve matured since then…hmmm…! Winking smile

Anyway, today’s run was the BEST!

I met with a running coach (who took most of the photos)…DSC09899

…and he talked with me and watched me run. This links in to the exciting news I mentioned yesterday by the way Smile

So I mainly worked on my form and turnover today as I said, and I was pretty happy with my 200’s and 400’s at paces of between 5.08-5.30 min/mile. I know I can do better too when I’m concentrating on speed and hopefully once I’m fully uninjured! I only just had time for a quick stretch out afterwards before the track manager threw me out (it closed at 1pm, and I hit the changing rooms at 12.58! Smile with tongue out)

Haha don’t ask me why I am concentrating so hard there…apparently stretching takes a lot of brain power! Smile with tongue out

It was SO FUN and I loved every minute! It was one of those times when you feel like you were made to do it.

Clearly I wasn’t born a fashionista. Hmmm the fluorescent orange shoes with the blue tempos? I think I need some of you guys to be my personal stylist.

But the exciting news? Basically I was contacted by the running club that I ran with as part of in the race I did a month back. Although the time I got there (5k in 20.59) wasn’t the best I could do, they knew that I wasn’t allowed to ‘race’ because of my injury, but the coach said he saw some ‘promise’ in me. PROMISE?! Yaaaay!! Open-mouthed smile

Anyways, so today I met with him again and I’ve been asked to join the club!! Now get this, this club’s junior division WON the Nationals and the women’s came THIRD in the European Club Championship!! WOAH!! Now I am nowhere NEAR good enough yet to be on the team, but with hard, focused training, I know have the potential to be!

WATCHI THIS VIDEO!! This is the girls team winning the 4x400m relay at the European Championships. They are scarily fast. It actually gave me goosebumps to watch!! They are the team are in black. The actual race starts 1 minute in if you wanna skip to there:

SKIP TO 60 secs in and start watching!! And the second girl on the team has my Tempo shorts, so I must be doing something right! ;)

Um, scary right?! Okay, there are obviously those of you reading who CAN run that fast (or faster…!!) but for me that is SO fast it makes my head hurt to think about it! Smile with tongue out

But can this girl do it?DSC09904

I believe I can. It won’t be easy, but having a coach and real training sessions will help. But most importantly I truly believe anyone can do anything if they want it bad enough and are prepared work for it. I started running less than a year ago, and I was a 9 min/mile girl six months ago, so I have come a long way already, and I know I can go further.

“All things are possible to him who believes”- Mark 9:23DSC09898

Plus, I have chocolate milk on my side. My secret weapon can do me no wrong.DSC09910

I made my decision today. Later this year (once I’m *hopefully* recovered from my shin splints and done with exams and stuff for the year) I am going to join. The team isn’t actually where I live, so getting to training and meets is gonna make it that much harder, but so worth it in the end!

Highlight of your Sunday? Can I say all of it, or is that cheating? Okay, the run+coaching thing wins!!

Boast Time! Tell me how far YOU’VE come in something! Running, life, whatever, tell me all about it and I’ll give you a hug!

Random Q: What is your favourite item of clothing/footwear? My beloved orange racing flats shown above, because they have ‘Kiss This’ written on the sole! Open-mouthed smile

P.S. Did anyone get the song reference in the title? Who knows their Disney songs?! Winking smile

  8. 3:46 for a 4×400!?!?!? HOLY SMOKES. That’s redonkulous. I give so much credit to 400m runners. That race looks so hard. I’ll stick to my 3200 and 5000 :) But seriously CONGRATULATIONS!!! I’m so happy for you! I see promise in you too and being a part of that team will be such an amazing experience.
I would boast about my PR yesterday, but you already read about it. I’m still so so so ecstatic about it! I can’t wait until my next race now because I know I can go even faster, and now my coach has some really high hopes for my 5k!

  9. Incredible news, I’m so happy for you! I’ve never seen you run, but from reading your blog for the past few months, I know you have the potential & determination to be even more amazing at running than you are now. I’ve come so far in recovery from my ed that even though I’m going through one of the hardest things I’ve ever been through I’ve not had a complete relapse, only a minor one… and I’m ok with that, I’m doing better than I thought I could so.. could be worse huh

    • Aww thank you!! And you are NOT a ‘slow bum’! Oh, and you’ve done a marathon, so we can’t really compare here!! :P

Speedwork is SO key! So things like Tempo runs, mile repeats, 400′s, etc are all REALLY important to build into your routine and will make you faster! Ask away if you need anything and I’ll try to help best I can :)

  20. !! That’s such flippin’ good news on the running club! Congrats girl! And of COURSE you can do it! Just look how awesome you look when you run :D Pro right there!

Something I’ve come really far in and am proud of myself for? Overcoming my eating disorder and taking charge of my health. Best thing I ever did :D

Chocolate milk is something I always crave after a super hard workout/run = the best.
I really do like orange and blue together and especially the bright orange shoes. My favorite thing are my experia thorlo pad socks. They are like running on little clouds love them.

  22. Wow. I just left like a 2 page comment and then my computer froze up. So this one wont be quite as long, but Im glad you still managed to get your pancakes in, and those blondies look amazing. Send some over here if there are any leftovers. So awesome that you had a great workout/the opportunity to be on that team. Of course you can do it! I always tell myself “Anything Is Possible,” and that helps me get through a lot of my workouts. I also think about the people with disabilities who would do anything to be able to run. I just watched a movie about 3 guys who ran across the Sahara desert. 111 days straight…4300 miles! It was so inspiring, and now it’s easy for me to go out for a four mile run thinking about them. 4 years ago I was a football linemen and ate mcdonalds everyday. I wanted to change and life a healthier life, so I quit football, and started running! I started at 22 min 5k and brought it down to 16:20. So there’s my short boast! Anything is possible and you can definetely improve so much if you stay with the sport and stay consistent. We should look at running as something god LETS us do each day and should always look forward to it. One of the key things though is staying injury free. Some of the best runners I know have been the ones who haven’t been sidelined with injuries. My fav item is racing spikes and tempo shorts, and im looking forward to a short run tonite followed by a new pancake recipe!
logan osterhout recently posted..The Never Ending Rest Day AND NEW FOODS

    • WOAH from 22min 5k to 16.20?! And I can’t ever believe you were a Maccy D guy!! Woah!! And I love inspirational stories like that :)

Sadly, I am injured at the mo (more on that tomorrow) but I’m gonna work hard to fully recover so I can KICK BUTT when I’m back! It’s all part of His plan and it’s taught me so many important lessons! Love the way God works! :D

And YAAY for runs and pancakes!!

  23. Congrats girl! You will rock in the club!!! I wish you the best of luck – not that you need it. ;-) The highlight of my day was visiting my BFF at her college.

  24. I made cookie dough pancakes this morning, too! :) They were so good!! But please tell me you double the recipe, too. I don’t know why, but I always double Katie’s recipes, thinking I’ll save some for later – never happens! :) Congrats on the running club! You work really hard and it’s obvious that you just love to run (and you’re quite good at it!) Anytime you can pair up your passion with focus, greatness follows. Good for you! :)

    • Haha I do that too!! I double most single-serving recipes anyway hehe ;)

THANK YOU!! And I LOVE that thought! “Anytime you can pair up your passion with focus, greatness follows”- awesome! :)

meaning no hot choc :( and i figured the alpro choc would be as, um, ‘delicious’ (not!) as their plain soya milk… but i’m gonna try a warmed-up alpro choc. i blame u if it’s yuck ;) hahaha!!
