Feelin’ the love

HELLOOO friends!! Having a great day I hope!!

Today I was really feelin’ the love from everybody! Smile

Firstly, from the world- the weather was SO lovely today!! DSC07974

And the minute I turned on my computer, I found out I’d been awarded the Bootylicious Award by my gorgeous friend Carrie!! Open-mouthed smile

picture-73

THE RULES:

1. Post this award with the picture and name whoever tagged you in it

2. Do the STUFF

3. Award to 7 others and tell them you did so!

THE STUFF:

1. Name 3 things that are lying right next to you

2. Name 2 foods you cannot live without

3. Name 1 thing you did today

1. 3 things that are next to me right now…well today I had a lot of work to do, so I’ve been glued to my desk all day…

A box of cereal:DSC08989

This means I can munch away endlessly without ever having to leave my desk- WIN! Open-mouthed smile

Water bottles:DSC08988

Yep, four of them! I drink a LOT of water. Actually, this totally defeats the point of the cereal, since I have to get up every few minutes to go to the loo, but whatever! Smile with tongue out

My Garmin:DSC08991

Instead of studying, I spent time playing around with the settings so I can have a proper recovery run without going too fast! Procrastination gets me every time!!

2. Two foods I can’t live without. To be honest, if you have been read my blog at least twice, I’m sure you can name a few! If you haven’t, I’ll give you a few now: chocolate, dates, peanut butter and oats. Instead, I’ll give you two of my eats today!

Firstly, Chocolate Peanut Butter Overnight Oats:DSC08956

Perfect after my hot morning run! 1/2 cup oats, 1 cup vanilla soy milk, 1.5 tbsp cocoa powder, 1.5 tbsp chia seeds, 1 tbsp peanut butter all stirred together and put in the fridge for at least an hour. Then I topped with another tbsp peanut butter before eating! DELISH!! And funnily enough, it combines 3 of the foods I never go a day without…! Smile with tongue out

For lunch, I tried seitan for the first time!

DSC08961

I tried some of it straight up with broccoli and sweet potato mash. DSC08977

It is weird how much it looks, smells, and tastes like meat! SO weird, since I haven’t had meat or anything like it in years! Puts me off a bit to be honest, but it does have awesome nutritional stats:DSC08962

21.3g protein per 100g?! Wowzers! Still I think the expense (almost a fiver for a small jar!!) and the meat thing means I won’t be buying it much, if at all though.

3. One thing I did today: I had a CRACKIN’ pain free run!! Got it in early, and overdressed cos the weatherman told me last night it would feel like 4C. He lied. Hello 20C. Still it was SUCH a beautiful day and I loved it!! (FYI this is my race team T-shirt from Sunday, which has the club name on it, so that weird scribble across my chest is where I’ve blanked it out because I am paranoid about internet safety, cool that I am).

DSC08953

So. Much. Fun!! NOT a good easy/recovery run though! ‘Recovery’ run: 4 miles, 31mins, 7.47min/mile pace. I HAVE worked out now how to set my Garmin to help me do proper easy/recovery runs! Getting injured has taught me more about the importance of them, and Paula Radcliffe talks about how important they are too in becoming a better runner and staying injury free. So I’m gonna do them, and do them properly!! Bring it ON!! Open-mouthed smile (Oh, and I’ll be publishing a post soon on what I’ve learned from my injury and how I’m going to train from now on, i.e., pretty differently!)

So THANKS Carrie for the award! I’m gonna pass this on to the first seven Bootylicious bloggers who commented on yesterday’s post:

  1. Emily @ Sparkle and Shade, then Carrie (but obviously you’ve already done, it! Smile with tongue out)
  2. Ffion @ Chocolate and Raspberries
  3. Emma @ The Quirky Kitchen
  4. Jen @Pinches of Jen
  5. Lauren @ Run Yoga Repeat
  6. Hollie @ Lolz that swim(and run)
  7. Christina @ Move Over Celery

I also felt the love today when a package arrived for me…DSC08957

It was the cookies I bid on at Katie’s Vegan Bake Sale for Japan! Attached was the sweetest note ever!DSC08960

The lovely Eleanor did this for me! A whole box full of delicious chocolate chip cookies!DSC08958

Don’t they look AMAZING?!DSC08980

I polished off two of those bad boys straight away! Dayum they are SO DELICIOUS!!

I swear, you friends know me too well! Not only did the lovely Eleanor bake me a whole box of delicious vegan cookies, BUT threw in CHOCOLATE COVERED DATES too!! Open-mouthed smileDSC08959

This was the icing on the cake cookie. Like actual HEAVEN for me:DSC08981

There are sadly only two left now. Don’t ask me who ate them all, because I’ll just cry when I remember that they’re almost all gone…well at least I’ll have 9 more delicious cookies to eat instead! Open-mouthed smile

DSC08971

Eleanor and Katie, thank you both SO much, and I’m hugging the goodies and pretending it’s you two, in the most non-creepy way possible. Just ignore the manic expression- it’s one of love.

*HUGS* for you all!! Open-mouthed smile

What’s one thing you did today? Tell me you ate your bodyweight in chocolate too and make me feel normal! Smile with tongue out

Have you tried seitan before? Thoughts? Maybe if I try making it myself it’ll be less meat-like…?

What are you looking forward to tomorrow? Early morning spin! I’d better get to bed now then since I have to be up at 5.45am! That’s early for me, althoug

Have a great day lovelies!!

  1. I ate my weight in granola. I had to make parfaits at work, which involves me and a 10 pound box of granola. Whoever put me in charge of that doesn’t understand my love for the crunchy goodness.
I only like seitan if it’s crispy! I like to roll it in some flour and bake it until it’s crispy.
And I’m looking forward to my first run since my injury! I, too, am changing my training because there is NO WAY I am going through this again. I can’t wait to read all about your experience!
    Oh! I LOVE YOUR DRESS!!!!!!!!

And those cookies look SO good. Jealous!
I have been meaning to try seitan for a while but i’m a little freaked out by how much it resembles meat, too.

  8. Congratulations on the run! That Seitan looks weird, but since the nutritional stats are amaze, I’m still interested in trying some! I also love that dress! Purple really suits you!

  9. I think I ate my body weight in dried bananas and mango’s but not chocolate :( hahah

I love seitan! It tastes nothing like meat to me.. I’m not a fan of that kind of stuff because I don’t miss meat AT ALL. I make my own though so I have no idea what yours tastes like.

I’m taking a spin class tomorrow too! Just not in the morning, at 6 PM!

  10. Those cookies like SO GOOD! I’ve had seitan in vegan fajitas before, and it was pretty good and not as “meaty” when it was cooked with veggies & a sauce.
    Thanks for the award :)

  11. oh yea, love carries award. too cute! Wish I could have seitan but it has wheat. I liked when I tried it before my gluten allergy. Tasty!

  13. Congrats on the pain free run and the delicious dates! Today I did a college visit at a school that has such cool options for general education classes, including a chocolate making course!! I was like “sign me up!”

  14. No running pain-that’s awesome news. I haven’t tried seitan yet as I haven’t managed to find it anywhere. Those cookies look gorgeous…YUM!

  15. Yeah I tried seitan once, but I didn’t like it at all, I marinated it and everything, but the meaty texture was not good- I never liked meat, and only eat fake meat things (eg quorn) as a last resort, and then only the fake chicken ones! I asked Laura about that when she made hers, and she said her home-made stuff was a meaty texture too. Those chocolate covered dates look amazing :)
Well done on the recovery run too.

  16. I made seitan once long time ago and I remember I used a whole lot of flour and I only got a little of seitan. I baked it in a pan with seasonings. It tasted something like tofu or meat. There is a restaurant where seitan chunks can be added to the salad – I always put lots of them in mine, they were sooo tasty!

  17. *woot* for the pain-free run. And can’t wait to hear about your training.

I have seen Seitan and tried it a while ago (except a different brand, and it was called ‘Yagga’ for some reason). The meatiness did put me off but I’m thinking of giving it another go for the protein, and because my tum seems to be putting up with wheat gluten better nowadays.

Ellie’s cookies are amazing. They’d have been gone too quickly for me to get a photo.

  19. I think I’m going to have to get in the kitchen this afternoon and whip up some chocolate covered dates.

Can I pretend they are healthy if I use dark chocolate? :)

  20. Hooray for a pain-free run on a beautiful day! That’s great! :) I’ve had seitan before at vegan restaurants and loved it!

  21. If you liked the seitan I’d reccomend you make it yourself, its so easy and very delicious – you can by vital wheat gluten from http://www.flourbin.co.uk or .com I can’t remember! I have a recipe for seitan sausage on my blog which is amazing!

  22. Haha, there’s so many foods I couldn’t possibly live without either, there’s no way I could pick just two! Love your solution :)
I love making homemade seitan! I only bought it once, and I agree that it was weird the way it was so meat like. I like it better homemade! :)
Oh and if you decide you don’t want some of those chocolate goodies, I’d happily take them off your hands ;) (haha, definitely just kidding – you and only you deserve them! :D )
And I love the new commenting system! :)
Have an absolutely fabulous week, girl!!!!

  23. I need to learn more about my Garmin, too. It’s such a complex watch, and yet I know how to do like 3 things with it. I agree that recovery runs are hard! It’s almost impossible for me not get carried away by my running high. But I guess once you suffer a setback from an injury, it probably becomes a bit easier.

  24. You are so pretty and POSITIVE Emma!! I went to a CO-P yesterday and there was a bucket-o-dates…made me think of you!

    yay for pain free runs!!

  25. aww fun post Emma! haha the seitan here looks~funny!! not at all like what I eat at NATIVE FOODS–a healthy restaurant in my county. I love seitan!! but it’s definitely not like what I see here. It was more~~natural looking, and a bit more on the tempeh-like texture. :)

  26. You know you can make your own seitan for a fraction of the price? Just buy vital wheat gluten online (flourbin do it) and it’s dead easy!
Chocolate covered dates??? I neeed them in my life!

  27. Wooooop! So glad they arrived in one piece and that you like them – and thank you for the virtual hug! It’s so weird, in a good way, seeing pictures of something I made on Sunday on another blog :-)
And I was in the farm shop on Sunday when I saw the dates and couldn’t resist; they were calling your name!
I haven’t eaten my own weight in chocolate today yet… but it’s only 9.30pm; plenty of time :-)
