Being thankful

HEY fellow bloggies and blog-readers!! Hope you’ve had a great weekend!! I’ve got a serious post for you today. I know, weird right? Winking smile I’m dedicating this post to my amazing friend Lindsay- this is me cleansing my heart girl! Smile

I learnt a very important lesson today about the importance of gratitude and in:

I woke up and felt shin pain. But I decided to try to do my easy 7-8 mile run anyway. I was careful- I ignored the blue skies that were tempting me to hit the pavements…

…and instead I hit the treadmill. But had to stop after 20 minutes after consistent shin pain. And even when using the bike after that, the shin still hurt. Cue sad face.

I left the gym feeling a bit sorry for myself.

But I got home, put my self-pity to one side, dressed up nice(r) and set off to my friend Julia’s church to see her get baptised.

And as always, church turned things around for me. Praying, singing praise, and most of all, listening to my friend talk about why she was getting baptised really put things into perspective. She was amazing, and seeing this totally gorgeous friend of mine get baptised was totally the highlight of my week.

Bless her, she even caved to my insistence on an ‘after’ photo. Unfair how she looks this good after being dunked in water!!

But what I realised was how truly LUCKY I AM.

I am SO lucky to have legs that can carry me for miles on end, even if they do end up looking all wonky in photos…

And I should never EVER take that for granted. We are ALL so lucky in that we have our strong bodies that put up with all the things we throw at them,  and we have to stop and remember sometimes that not everyone is as BLESSED as we are.

We have to remember to LOVE and BE THANKFUL FOR EVERY MINUTE of life…DSC07978

…and to take time every day just to be with YOU. I did this today with some Bible time whilst icing the shin. Never underestimate the power of frozen sweetcorn and God.

DSC07982

My fave verse today: Psalm 136:1 ‘Give thanks to the Lord, for he is good, for his steadfast love endures forever.’

It’s also important to remember this: When all else fails- there’s always chocolate.DSC07984

That chocolate ‘ice-cream’ tub faced an air strike from my spoon, and lasted all of two minutes under heavy fire.

Quote of the day:

thankful

Tell me something YOU are thankful for! I’m thankful for all of YOU. Cheesy, but true!! Your comments, emails and Tweets teach me so much and make me so happy!!

Have you ever struggled with injury, or are you at the moment? A shout-out to a few friends who I know are dealing with injuries/recovering at the mo: Kelly, Janae, Freya, Carrie, Jess, and everyone else out there who I haven’t listed!! I hope you get back to 100% quickly!!

What is one thing that can cheer you up no matter what? Apart from everything I already listed, I did a bit of retail therapy too. Bra Sale shopping made me happy Smile

Have a great week lovelies!!

I'm sorry to hear about your leg, but you have such a positive outlook on the situation! I am crossing my fingers that you have a speedy recovery :)

  2. Love that you have such a positive outlook. I used to perceive myself so negatively but I am now to the point where I can stop and think and be thankful for everything that has happened to me. Good or bad.
What cheers me up no matter what is hot yoga or family dinners. :)

  3. I am thankful for my loving, supporting parents. They've dealt with me through the best and worst of times and are my best friends. They come to as many races as they can and they try my weird concoctions. I can tell them anything and I know that they will always be there for me!
I hope you heal quickly! I had terrible shin pain in December, to the point where walking hurt. I took two weeks off from running, and slowly got back into it. It was so hard for me, but I'm proud to say that I survived! I know you will too! It just strengthens the love for the sport.

  4. Ugh, injuries are the worst, but they do force you to put things in perspective! When it comes down to it, tendonitis is nothing compared to what lots of other people have to suffer through around the world. Great post, girl. It really hits home. I'm so thankful for my family. Without them, I'd be nothing!

  5. I hope your shin feels better soon. I'm proud of you for knowing when to stop. I've exercised in spite of pain before, and ended up making it worse. It's a wonderful thing to understand your own body, and know how to take care of it. Our bodies are tough machines, but that doesn't mean we should abuse them!

I'm so grateful for my health, and for everything/everyone in my life. I loved reading this post. Once in a while I need a reminder to be grateful for what I have. We get upset when we can't do our usual workouts. Imagine not even having legs to walk on! Putting things into perspective is something I should do more often.

  6. I too have been feeling kinda sorry for myself, but mine is a knee problem :( , way to turn things around :) As much fun as wallowing in self pity is….its so much better to enjoy the GOOD things in life. GREAT post

  7. Emma, I LOVE this post. I am grateful for my friends and family, my health, and having a choice. I'm also so grateful to have a choice about how I live my life: being able to choose my career and my hobbies, as I know that so many people don't have this choice.
Sorry to hear about your shin injury :-( I so hope it gets better for you soon!

  8. Thanks again for checking out my blog!
I am thankful for discovering the wonders of the blog world! I totally agree with you, it’s nice to hear from others :)

  9. I believe being thankful / thankfulness should always be in one's heart. I'm especially thankful for my parents – who have brought me into the world, raised me, and gave so much opportunities in my life; my body – for allowing me to do what I want to, for not being ill, and for carrying my heart&soul.
I hope your shin gets better. Just wondering, do you always have to ice your legs after running? I don't run too much, but I do sprint once in a while. Should you still ice after short intervals?

    • So TRUE girl!! You are inspiring:)

No, only when there's pain or soreness thankfully! Icing it twice a day at the moment is SUCH a chore- I hate sitting still for long periods of time!! :P

  10. LOVE this post! You look so beautiful in that cute dress, and that quote at the end is so moving. I love those little reminders that make me put things in perspective, and I am just grateful to be alive! I am thankful for my family, friends, the bloggie community, and chocolate :)

  11. I am sorry about your injury but I am glad to see you have such a positive outlook it will make all of the difference.

  12. That is awful about your shin. Hopefully you recover.
I too am thankful that I have strong legs to carry me to run. I'm thankful for peanut butter too. (:

I'm currently injured and can't run. It's the worse, but I know I will get better!

  13. love your post! So positive! (:
please check out my blog if you get the chance I am new to blogging and would REALLY appreciate it!
    Thanks!

  15. “Never underestimate the power of frozen sweetcorn and God…..”

    THIS just cheered me up!!!

    you’re too funny :-)
hope the shins feel better today!
    xx

  16. Ah Emma, gratitude is so important. When I was trying to make myself happier when away in oz I put a gratitude journal on my I-phone and wrote things in it at the end of each day, it really does make you focus on the positive things in your life and I still do it from time to time. I think a good hug cheers anyone up x

  17. Such a lovely post! Every morning when I wake up I do 5 minuteds yoga / meditation that ends with me reminding myself what I'm grateful for – to have a body that is healthy, my lovely husband, my little flat, a good job etc. I had an injury last year and it sucked, but you will get better!

  18. Aw hope you heal up soon, its horrible when you have an injury! I have flu at the moment and cant run :( i just want to get back to doing my runs again :(

  19. I SO NEEDED THIS!!! ahh im so sorry about your pain- i LOVE your positve attitude though- to be honest ive been feeling a bit down because of it and this post really brought my mind back into perspective! i hope we all recover quickly but it the mean time- we shall focus on the positive!

  20. Oh I am so so sorry about the shin pain! Take it from me : REST. DO NOT RUN FOR AT LEAST A WEEK!
If you run again, you're gonna end up taking 3 months off and having to fork out £££s for a physio. Please please don't run for a while!!!
I'm thankful for…my horse, cos she always makes me smile no mtter what :)

  21. I think it's only when we're feeling down that we're able to see how lucky we really are. I was in a funk this weekend, but at the same time, it made me realize I have so much to be thankful for, especially all that is going on in the world right now. No reason to let little petty things get me down! A wonderful family, a roof over my head, food in my tummy, a wonderful horse; all things to be grateful for right there.
I hope you have a swift recovery :]

  22. Sorry about the shin pain, hope it goes away soon. And as you said there is always chocolate. :) Lovely post! (Did you get my email about writing a guest post?)

  23. I adore this post. I experienced many of these thoughts last week and this weekend as well with the passing of a friend. Life is too precious to do anything but rejoice in the gifts we do have for who knows when they can be taken away from us. Keep taking care of those shins..chocolate + retail therapy is the best solution of course ;-)

  24. Aw lovely post- you are always so upbeat :)
I am thankful for my lovely friends, family, health, my little garden :)
The kids at work make me smile if I am feeling down- they are so optimistic too and it is so refreshing.
    And of course, chocolate!

  25. Allison @ Runs A Latte

So sorry about your shin! It's ridiculously hard when you can't do something you love. But your positive attitude is amazing! I'm always such a mope when I'm injured and SUPER cranky! You'll get better in no time! :)

  26. What an awesome post! I love Lindsay, too. She's a big inspiration in my life. How have I never read your blog before?? Glad to have found you. :)

My husband and my nieces can ALWAYS cheer me up! And yes, I've had an injury. It's difficult for sure, but I think it's always a time to learn more about ourselves and our faith.

  27. sweet friend, you are beautiful! Your heart, your soul, and your smile! I love this post, thank you for sharing it with us and being such an INSPIRATION! I am praying for those shins to heal up fast, but for now we can rest in knowing that God is good and he will give us all we need. LIKE CHOCOLATE!!
    love you.

What a lovely post – and you look gorgeous in that dress!
You've got a brilliant outlook (and I love the "frozen sweetcorn and God quote!) and everything crossed your shin is better soon xx

  29. I'm definitely thankful for all the friends I've made in the blogging community and that I seem to discover more awesome blogs daily.
I haven't been injured lately but I was sick all this week. It's awesome that you could listen to yourself and just take a break. It must have indeed been a bummer though.
what is that chocolate ice cream? Looks delish :)

  30. Thank YOU for the lovely reminder to be thankful! I’m thankful for my husband. He’s been away for so long…since November…and he’s coming home for TWO WHOLE WEEKS this weekend! YAY!!! I’m thankful that the sun is shining bravely even though it’s still below freezing. I’m thankful that another Monday is coming to an end!

  31. I love this post! It is so true that we all have so much to be thankful for.
I'm thankful for my friends, my amaaazing family, hilarious coworkers, fellow bloggers, and for red wine!
One thing that can always cheer me up: girl talk and wine with my mom and/or best friend!

Keep up your awesome attitude and I'm sure your shin will be better sooon!

  32. I am thankful for my health! My husband and sweet pup can always cheer me up…especially when I'm dealing with injury. I get REALLY sad when I'm injured and it keeps me from doing things that I love. I just try to put injury in perspective and spend time up front resting and healing so it doesn't become something chronic.

Such a sweet post, Emma. I've been in a very thankful mood lately too. I am so blessed and feel so happy with where I am in life right now!

  33. I'm particularly thankful for my family (and beautiful cat, Minnie) at the moment, plus I'm thankful for the delightful spring weather and sunshine.

I am so sorry about your injury: have you considered seeing a physio or podiatrist as it sounds like your shin splints are persistent, despite adequate cross-training and rest. You might need orthotics or different shoes to correct your running form? Apologies if you've already done this, I just hate to see such a talented athlete as you sidelined even though you're doing all the right things and treating your body well.

    *hugs*

    xxx

  34. Lovely post and I'm so sorry to hear about your shins. Rest, ice and you'll be back in no time!

  35. Should you so occur to become acquiring seriously tired and frustrated then you need to analysis the ejaculation trainer a little more and you may actually come across some answers to support you at ejaculation

  36. Girlie THIS is why i love your blog so much!! :)
