10 happy things

HOWDY friends!! Open-mouthed smile

I am just SO happy right now, and on a bit of a HIGH!! This is probably mostly due to the amount of sugar I have just consumed (date addiction…), but also because there has been SO MUCH to be happy about!! So here are 10 things that have made me happy in the last two days…

1. Special Breakfast Monday. I didn’t post it yesterday because of the Featured Athlete post, but it deserves to be drooled over. Cookie dough baked oatmeal:DSC07778

Well, it’s actually a cross between that and Katie’s baked banana oatmeal that she posted today! Great minds think alike Winking smile

2.  Snack bar lovin’.DSC07790

Pre-workout snackage. Convenient + tasty = WIN.

3. Double excitement: I am officially a gym member again (of the cheapo gym not the posh one- cheap gym is MUCH closer to home…and cheap) AND on my way to the gym I bought a BUCKET of peanut butter.DSC07792

I am hiding behind the bucket a) to show that it is nearly the size of my head, and that really says a lot about how big the bucket is, and b) because my face is the same colour as my hoodie (cheapo gym=rubbish air con).

A little size comparisonDSC07823

Love it!! Still won’t last long though around me! Winking smile

4. Having a killer running-day-off workout. Monday was a running day off, so I spent some time resting my shins by staying away from the treadmill, elliptical, summit trainer, etc. and instead spent some quality time bonding with the bike whilst geeking up…DSC07822

…on Sports Nutrition!!

Monday workout: 35 mins speed intervals on bike + BodyPump. My Monday instructor (who I LOVE) has changed pretty much the whole routine to ‘challenge’ us more. My muscles today are telling me her challenging routine worked. Ouchie.

5. Discovering my new fave snack/dessert/general munchie…DSC07824

Medjool dates stuffed with nut butter (one PB, one almond) and chocolate chips. SO yummy. If only Medjool dates weren’t so darn expensive, I would probably eat this all day, every day! Smile with tongue out

6. Tempo Run Tuesday.

Took it a bit easier than normal so I didn’t overdo it on my shins, but still it still rocked!

Tempo run:
1 mile warm-up
1 mile @ ‘comfortably hard’ pace- 6.44 min/mile
1 mile @ ‘easy run’ pace- 7.35 min/mile
1 mile @ cool down/chill pace- 8.20 min/mile

Wasn’t as hard as a normal tempo run, and my shins felt fine mostly. They twinged a bit during the fast mile…DSC07830

…but were mostly okay. And I iced them up afterwards Smile

7. Yummy post-workout food. YIAJ (soy Yoghurt In A Jar) topped with natural strawberry jam:DSC07836

I have been saving that almond butter jar for SO long, and it finally got put to good use! Open-mouthed smile My first YIAJ- AMAZING stuff!!

8. Chocolate Chip Date Cookie Dough Balls…DSC07842

I ate so much ‘cookie dough’ straight from the food processor and it was GOOOD! Smile Adapted from Averie’s recipe. I subbed mango for chopped dates and white chocolate for dark chocolate chips, because if you don’t know by now how addicted I am to these things, then you never will! Smile with tongue out Anyway, these balls are the most DELISH thing ever, and taste almost EXACTLY like cookie dough!! WIN!! Open-mouthed smile Averie is a genius!

9. Early morning spin tomorrow. And I mean early. I don’t think I have EVER gotten up at 5.45am before to workout. So this’ll be a first! I’m slightly freaked out by the time, but since I looked like this last time after spin…DSC05353

…I can’t wait to get my early-morning sweat on! Open-mouthed smile BRING ON THE SPINNER’S HIGH!!

10. My upcoming giveaway, which I will be announcing TOMORROW. Or Thursday…but anyway, SOON!! This is an AWESOME one, so stay tuned!! Open-mouthed smile

Aaah I love life Smile

Tell me one thing (or more than one!) that has made YOU happy!

Are you a spin fan? I love it! It’s SUCH a killer workout, and turns me into a sweaty beast!!

Are you an early workout person? What time do you work out? I do the majority of my workouts in the afternoon/evening, but on a Sunday I have an early one. Even that though is only a 7.30am start, so not that bad! Smile with tongue out

Enjoy the rest of your week friends!!

  3. I love how much you enjoy nut butters!! They are so tasty on basically everything!!! :) Great tempo today! The earliest I've gotten up to workout was 5, but that does not happen very often!! I get up at 6 usually since I work at 7 so it's just easier to workout in the afternoons. Good luck tomorrow morning! :)

  4. You make me happy. No, seriously. Want to make me more happy? Come to Texas already! I only ask you like what, every day? ;)

  5. I'm happy because today I PR'd in the 3200 and won my race by over 1:20. That was pretty exciting! I wish I had a jar of peanut butter that big. I don't know where I'd put it though. I couldn't leave it on the countertop, otherwise it would be the only thing I ever reach for!
You are always reading the best books! I'm still trying to catch up on runners world from a few months ago.

  6. Whoa…that baked oatmeal has my mouth nearly watering. Yum!!
And YES, please to the medjools stuffed with peanut butter and chocolate chips! that is probably the best snack ever. maybe tied with those cookie dough balls you made :]

  7. Loving all the cookie dough & those stuffed dates! I am in LOVE with spinning, it's such a great workout, and the music & sweating just gets me in the groove.
I'm not a big morning workout fan, but I ran 4 miles at 10 am this morning, hah it kinda counts. Most of the time, I workout in the afternoon/evening.

  8. Ah your cookie dough baked oatmeal looks so much better than mine!!! Mine looked so much smaller than yours! haha Did you use 1/2 cup? Those cookies dough balls would keep popping into my mouth teehee I love working out in the morning. The endorphins rock! :D

  9. Lara@sixtimestheyum

Good food (especially dessert and peanut butter+chocolate!) makes me happy. :) I'm an early morning workout person, mainly because early workouts work best with my schedule. I've learned to love them because they are a great start to the day. (Can someone say endorphin rush? Haha.)

  10. I totally love spinning! It’s so addictive! I always get up way early to workout. 6am on the dot to get ready for the gym.

  11. I wanted to ask you when you are at the gym how are you getting these pics with noone around-haha…

  12. I'm trying to convince myself to become a morning workout person. It'd be nice to have my nights free.

That is one massive jar of peanut butter–I'm not sure I've ever seen one that size. Sheer beauty!!

  13. I love working out in the morning, but I can't seem to make it happen on the weekdays. Weekends i'm always up bright and early!
whee I love giveaways, even when i don't win! I'm doing one soon too :)
That pb jar is huuuge. So jealous!

  14. hannahshealthyhappylife

I love spin class! I've only taken it once but it give such a high after!
I love running first thing in the morning, it makes you just feel better the rest of the day.

  15. Wow , that cookie dough baked oatmeal looks intense! Recipe please!!

I'm defo an early morning workout- much much prefer it! I have to be work for 9.30 so am at 6.30 and either hit the gym, run, or do yoga at home for an hour or so! Can't imagine any better way to get the day started! Fortunately my body clock has kicked in and waking up so early has become natural.

  16. Haha, ive seen those BUCKETS of PnB in holland & barratt and its true, they are easily face-sized! :-)

Those cookie dough bites look scrumbo. im gonna have to get my bake on soon, i keep seeing so many delicious looking foods and i never have the time/skill to make any of em!

This week the thing that has made me smile the most is….. the SUN! as im sure you can agree, its a rareity to get a rain-free sunny day, so the fact that we've had like 2-3 in a ROW is crazy good!!! roll on summer baby!

(looking forwards to your next giveaway, i think you've released a competition FIEND in me!!!!)
    happy wednesday xx

  17. Those stuffed dates look so good :) I am impressed you did that workout before pump- no wonder your muscles are feeling it!
I normally work out after work, but I much prefer it in the mornings in the holidays. What made me happy? The sun is shining today, that is making me happy :)

  18. I'm happy because I have apple, cinnamon and raisin porridge right now, and a big mug of coffee :)

And totally agree with you about medjool dates: totally yummy, way too much sugar, and freakin expensive!

  19. Hmm that nut butter stuffed date looks amazing!

  20. I can't work out in the morning, I'm at work at 6am, so I'm not getting up any earlier than I need to! So I workout in the evening.
    I LOVE spinning classes. I think I'm addicted I do 4 a week!
They're all with different instructors, so the workout is totally different!

  21. So many things have been making me happy! Passing my first assignment on my course, my amazing oatmeal, cashew butter breakfast, increasing my speeds on the treadmill this morning (fave workout time 7am!) and the beautiful weather today :-)

  22. fashionfitnessfoodie

I love spin! But only from a certain teacher and sometimes I cant make her class :/
Totally wish I was a mornign workout person but it just doesnt happen for me.
Something that made me happy were the tastiest protein bars I made yesterday! They tasted like a reeses!!

  23. I loveeee the look of that cookie dough baked oatmeal! Recipe please!!!
If I bought a tub of pb that big it would go in one sitting! Ok, maybe not one. More like two ;-)
And i'm off to a spin class in a minute… I love it!

  24. Love spinning and early a.m. workouts! The energy I get after working out in the morning is the best – hope you enjoyed it and your spin class!

  25. Love the Cookie Dough Baked Oatmeal. Did you just use a banana in it instead of applesauce? A cross between that and the Banana Bread recipe sounds amazing! :)

  26. i am a spin fan! but my school doesnt have classes this semester :( BOOOOOOO

I am an early morning person- I wake up between 630-730 everyday, even on the weekends but I never actually work out that early hahah I usually lounge around until 8 or 9.

  27. adventuresofpretendcook

I don't really like early morning workouts. Most of the time I work out in the afternoons or evenings But if I have a day off or don't have to be at work until late, I workout mid-morning. I think 9:00 or 10:00 am is a perfect workout time. Wish I could do that every day.

  28. YAY for a giveaway!! one thing that made me happy was that i ran 6.25 miles today! woulda thunk.. i thot i could never do that i just pulled it out and it was actually easy.. yay!.. AHH I HAVE THAT PB BUCKET TOO!! i use it mainly for cooking cuz the no salt thing really sucks.. i guess i just like my salt-hehe!

  29. this sounds totally lame, but my post-race (and toe-hurting) laziness has made me very happy this week. :) I don't feel any guilt to limiting myself to abs and upperbody weights all week… cause I'm pooped and I hurt!

  30. Medjool dates stuffed with pb…win!

  31. Hah! One of those buckets lasted me less than a month. Two in six weeks. Oh dear.

I adore spin, sometimes taking two classes per day. It's not great for the IT bands, but sometimes I have trouble setting up the bike correctly due to my shortness, so it shouldn't cause you any problems. I like how each class is quite specific to the instructor too, and the music generally motivational.

I like to get the bulk of my workouts done early, so I'm usually up at 5:00 to fit things in before Uni, otherwise it weighs on my mind and I'm unproductive without an endorphin rush. I do take evening classes too though, and rushing home for lunch counts as a workout ;)

    xxx

  32. 10 things I LOVE about this post:
    1) Your posts always make me sooo happy and I can never stop a smile the whole time I'm reading:)
    2) Cookie Dough + Oatmeal = two of my favorite things
    3) Chocolate + Cookie Dough + Oatmeal = Amazing, Incredible combo!
    4) Breakfast + Chocolate + Cookie Dough + Oatmeal = Olivia counting down the minutes until she can go home to make the exact said bowl…182 1/2 :)
    5) Great workouts are the best, especially the bike! Poor old bike always gets so neglected!
    6) Yummy post workout grub: Almost better then the workout itself:)
    7) Your posts seriously make me SOOOO HAPPY!!! I don't know how I ever survived the days before discovering your blog!
    8) Cookie Dough Balls that are HEALTHY are a huge huge win!
    9) I have this weird obsession with the number nine…and I seriously LOVE your blog!
    10) Medjool dates are most definitely the yummiest snack when stuffed with nut butter (love nat. pb in them!) and dark chocolate…omg foodgasmic!

Just thought I'd brighten your day a little with some huge blogger lovin' :) Have a great one!!

  33. What a fab list Emma!! You always make me crave yummy PB when I read your posts. Btw, I blame you for my dark chocolate dreams obsession!!!

How did you spin class go??? That is early–I find it a struggle to run fast when I haven't even woken up yet!!

  34. AM workouts are my favorite! Also your cookie oatmeal looks ah-maz-ing!! :D

  35. Allison @ Runs A Latte

I've never done spin, although I want to. The times always clash with my schedule.

I'm out of bed by 4:55, working out at 5:45 and in the shower at 7:05. My workout schedule is totally clock work!

If I don't work out in the AM, I'm exhausted and can hardly focus at work.

  36. I work out after work mostly b/c I'd probably have to wake up at 5am if I wanted an early morning workout. That's never going to happen haha!
